600 yards and beyond

M-14's with 7.62 ball and iron sights were generally good out to 800 yards on the KD range. An M1 will do the same thing. Nothing fancy, just two extremely good rifles that are often overlooked by those with too much taste in their mouths.

600-1200 yards, .260 is great, a pleasure to shoot and "cheatingly" easy to stack round after round.

243 is also another consideration, the least kick out of everything else mentioned, capable of matching most of the 6.5 rounds and would be a lot cheaper than anything else, except maybe your 308.
Also uses a short action.

Got a whole lot of thinking to do now. Thanks for all the help guys, I've got some options now.
Sorry for the delay, spring is here and we are back to working full force.
I'm going to stick with the Rem 700 in 308 for right now, and see how I like shooting the matches, go from there.
