6.5x55 vs 30-30 for wooded hunting?

For me it is a choice of actions instead of cartridges. For woods hunting I would prefer a lever action.

I reload for my K31 with the same load as I do for my .308.

.308Win 168gr HPBT Sierra bullet over 42.5 gr of IMR4350. And yes, it will do what you want. The K31 is a little heavier to tote around but very capable...
 
I really like the 6.5x55 and the Swedish Mausers.

I have also hunted in the deep brush in the PNW coast. For that the .30-30 lever gun is the way to go.

It's relatively light and short, which allows you to carry it more easily and take quicker shots.

You can hunt in the scrub with a bolt action. I did that to. It just means toting a couple more pounds and getting used to shooting the thing.

So where are you hunting?
 
I've used both
In thick brush you get one shot so a lever gun is not that great of an advantage
I'd go with the 6.5, lots of KD power for bigger game
