The press likes to paint the picture of an evil criminal with his 54 guns in the house. Heraldo tonight on Fox (O'Reilly show) mentioned the 54 guns like it was an indictment on the kids criminality. No comment on the numbers; was a set up statement for Heraldo's other comments. He was plugging his new show basically.
I would be most interested in learning about the parents and their interests. I would bet that the father at least was an avid hunter and shooter and had exposed his son to the use of guns at an early age. I don't place any responsibility on the parents at all. The kid was 18 years old and had apparently been planning this assult. I highly doubt that the girl is innocent of all crimes, at least knew about the plan. Kids like to talk. Remember they were "in love" and sharing their innermost thoughts on life and so forth.
As was said, New Yorkers tend to believe that everyone thinks the way they do and the press are primarily "new yorkers". On the surface, 54 guns sounds like a lot. But, if you are an avid shooter and hunter and perhaps supply guns to other family members to use while hunting, I can easily see more than a couple shotguns. The AR's, most people became inteested in them after the so called clinton ban. Got to have one of them. They are fun to shoot.
How many of us would look really bad if something happened and our homes were raided and guns discovered and reported to the press. One guy here was proscuted for murder, and they found many guns. To me it looked like a collection or at least an accumulation. The problem was that he could not legally own firearms since he was convicted previously of a felony.
