500+ Free Small Primer .45acp Brass

The size of your primer doesn't matter. Don't think any of 'em are Berdan though.
The whole thing is Winchester's fault. They started using small primers with their NT line.
Wouldn't bother with range brass myself. Far too many unknowns with it.

It's all about "green ammo". Lead free primers were available in small so the early mfgs. used them. I don't think there is any advantage nor disadvantage to primer size in 45 ACP other than personal choice ("they've always been large primed so that's all I'll use", and "it'll cut down my primer inventory")...

i did some fooling around once setting off primers by heat, and seriously, I found no discernable difference between various types of primers. they all went bang to about the same sound.

I suggest that you load up a few empties with both types and se what you find, if the large seem to put up a bigger flame or lowder detonation when fired.

With 231 your powder and ignition are already going to be very fast. I don't think that the new small primers are going to make any difference.

I believe it was an attempt to make primers less toxic (that evil lead,ya know). I doubt if anyone saved any money by using the then new non-toxic primers, and at that time they were prolly more expensive. The original NT ammo was meant to give off less toxic fumes for shooting indoors, perhaps instigated by police depts or military?

I reload both. Deprime them, clean them together. I sort them after cleaning. Once primed, since they will be just going to the range they get dumped back together and reloaded together. For my plinking, I don't notice any difference.

I actually called and talked to a Federal ENGR, about small primer .45 acp brass. Was told the only difference is the primer and place of MFG. I've loaded many hundreds small primer .45's and tested them against large primer .45' over the crony with no apparent difference with same load. hdbiker

Thanks, everyone!
That's the sort of info I need.
I will load these separately from large primer brass, but load them the same.
Thanks again!
