50 bmg pistol?

Has anyone on this forum ACTUALLY seen or fired a (real) 50 BMG pistol? Not a SW 500 but BMG? I've seen pictures of the Thunder but wonder if these are real.

WHY?
Even if the project were possible the recoil would be so uncontrollable as to make it a one shot and a trip to the ER.

There's no doubt it would be uncomfortable, but I have to wonder how much of the powder would actually get burnt in a pistol-length barrel? Most likely, you'd just get a HUGE muzzle flash, with all of that energy wasted instead of being directed as recoil or into propelling the bullet. I've fired the Freedom Arms revolver in 45-70, and the recoil was nowhere NEAR what you'd expect it to be.

It sounds like a "big gun" story. I always find those testosterone-driven "my gun is bigger than your gun" stories a bit amusing.

There is a market for them; they get made; I have never fired one (nor do I plan to if invited); they are big; any version is incredibly expensive for what I consider just a novelty.

This is known as idiotism as well. Check the blockheads, making fools who every spent a minute to download a video to watch this.
Oh no, i wouldn't put my finger on that.

There were some made. maadi griffin produced a .50bmg handgun.

This is a joke video of a Maddi Griffin being fired brom Birdman Weapons system. Miss that site..

Really bad idea. Years ago I watched a big guy fire a Barrett .50 cal. rifle offhand standing with it tucked into his shoulder. We had been shooting it off a concrete bench and we all told him not to do it. The look on his face was priceless. He did stand and take it like a man. He had to undergo surgery on his shoulder 2 days later. So, 50 BMG in a hand fired weapon? I can believe there are guys who would try it. One time. I love recoil as much as the next guy but there are limits unless you're really into surgical procedures.

I saw the Thunder at the SHOT Show a number of years ago along with a video of it being fired. There were only one or two made and they were advertising to sell the design, not the gun. I took Eric and Karl Rohrbaugh over to discuss it, but the cost of the design was prohibitive and they had no tooling or jigs, just a couple of guns and drawings. The one or two they had were hand built proof of concept guns. As far as I know nobody ever purchased the design because the production start up cost would probably not be recovered. How many would you be able to sell and how many would it take to cover the start up cost? Not a big market.

In the late 90s there was video of a 50 bmg pistol being fired by the builders
13 yr old little girl. Main point of the video was how affective the muzzlebrake
was. I have fired both my M82A1 barrett and my State Arms 'Special Edition'
from the shoulder, barely able to hold them up. 1903A3 recoils worse.
:D

Google 50 cal dreamer

Its a small steal device, (mine is about 8 inches long, newer ones are a bit longer), used to render safe, (disarm) bombs;

The bullet is pulled and something stuffed in to keep the powder in the case. The case is fired either electrically, or with a small piece of det cord.

In place of the bullet, it fires water, nickle powder, or a steel slug. I wont say how its used, but when fires, the dearmer flies back wards for a while.

I normally tape the wire used to fire the armorer to the armorer itself plus put a long ribbon of engineer tape so I can find the dearmer afters it fires.

If you ever saw one fired, you'll know why there is not 50 cal BMG pistols.
