A car was stolen in Mesa AZ, in the trunk was a 50 caliber Barrett and some other weapons.

Full details on the other weapons was not available at the this time

The car was a 90s Chevy SS Impala, metallic blue with a tach on the dash.

That's kind of a piss poor attitude Waterdog. Was the car stolen from his driveway or from the store he stopped at on the way home from the range? If you don't know, you have no right to call him a dumb*ss.

Whoever stole it will have a hard time getting rid of it. Even if he does, whoever buys it is going to sh*t when he sees how much ammo costs and that he can't buy it at the local Wal-mart. Few ranges will even let you shoot a Barrett so they'll have to take it way out in the sticks to avoid drawing a crowd. With any luck, the malfeasant will blow his ear drums out the first time he shoots it.

A stolen Glock would be much more of a danger to society than a stolen Barrett.

That is one of the most frightening thefts I've heard of. The gang bangers in my area took up an interest in tactical rifles a while ago. I can just see the carnage one of these little SOBs could cause with a light fifty.

Well, I'll remember to carry all my firearms into the bathroom if I ever need to take a break on my way to the range. Don't want to be a dumb a$$. ;)

Regards from AZ. And, watching for a blue Impala ... ;)

Would you leave a child in running car unattended?

This is the level of responsibility neccessary when someone possess a firearm of such capable destruction.

Not only was there other weapons, but that there was also as much as a 1000 rounds of different types of ammo.

This guy was a DUMB*SS!!.

I suspect that those who disagree with me, are guilty of the same behavior.

Water Dog, What is your source of verifiable information here? What you have said is very inflamitory if unproven.

Waterdog, all I'll say is that I disagree with your comparison, I feel you're exaggerating this error, and, frankly, it seems to me you are also falling into demonization of the .50.

If this was a model 99, single shot, I'm not so sure I'd agree it is some kind of 'Kryptonite' compared to a semi-auto rifle of medium or large caliber.

I hope they recover the gun. And, if the guy left the car unlocked, or the keys in the car, then I would join you in believing he is a fool.

Regards from AZ

I think it is questionable to leave anything so valuable in a car, but it certainly doesn't compare to leaving a child in a car unattended.

Just because there are scumbags around doesn't mean that the victim of a crime is a dumba$$. Like I said above, I am very conscious of crime, perhaps paranoid, but I can't condone blaming a crime victim for someone's illegal behavior.

As the owner of a '94 Impala, I can tell you that Chevy did not make a blue Impala SS in th 90s. The Impala SS was made in 94, 95 and 96, initially in black (in '94) then also in Black Cherry and Dark Green in 95 and 96. So I wonder if it was a repaint, or a bogus Impala (Caprice made to look like one.) Or one of the current ersatz 6- cylinder current Impalas, which are not "SSs".
This does not obviate the loss of a major firearm in any way...but calls into question the accuracy of the journalism that so often stumbles when dealing with firearms stories.

I am sure that once the gun is discovered the car thief will turn into a raving, murdering lunatic, and shoot everything in sight! Why does anyone need a weapon like this? There is no valid reason other than wanton destruction! ;)

And why did this dumba$$ leave his car unattended? The owner appearantly hopped up his engine for higher performance, and installed a tach to monitor it. Why does anyone need a high performance car? What nefarious plans does he have? It has much more destructive power than the rifle!

HankL,

It was in the daily rag, The East Valley Tribune, an Arizona paper.

I'm sure it was also in the Arizona Republic.

I'll see if I can find the dates for you, but I'm not going to type in the article.

The reporter, following the typical "4th Estate" protocol called a few of the rifles that were stolen, "semi-automatic machine guns".

If anyone was the dumba$$ it was the reporter that wrote the article.

So, we're hanging another gun owner out to dry?!

The fact is that no matter what we do, we are made to look bad. And any effort to keep "our nose clean" only encouraged the enemy to advance.

Calling the guy who's car was stolen a dumba$$ based on what has been posted here is pretty... stupid (?)...

[sarcasm] Better call me one too, because I had my tail-gate stolen because I didn't back my truck up to the garage door, but had it parked nose in with the tailgate out to the street!

No, no one makes a mistake. Do they? [/sarcasm]

Don't be so quick to judge.
