480 Ruger

With the shot show going on, I was crusing Ruger's website and both the SRH and the Alaskan are no longer listed/cataloged in 480. I was waiting to actually see an Alaskan in 480. Oh well. Any thoughts folks

Yep!

With less 480's being made will probably create less of a demand for 480 ammo. Creating even a harder time finding it.

My thoughts are stock up on ammo and components if ya can.

I continue to buy factory 480 Ruger ammunition when I find it at a reasonable price. I need to order some starline brass, probably 500 pieces just to have it. As with most big bore revolver cartridges, if you shoot it much, it becomes a re-loading effort long term.

I wish Ruger would explain why they dumped it again. I don't think they even made any or perhaps one production run since they brought it back in the Alaskan and 7.5" SRH.

Hunting with it.

I think that the OP first asked about hunting with it. I have a Taurus Rageing Bull in 480 Ruger. I'v used it to harvest 5 whitetail and 8 yotes. I love this revolver. I would recomend it.

Singlesix, this thread was essentially dead for over a month and I noticed that Ruger didn't have the 480's listed anymore. So, I added the new information as 480 threads are not all that popular and might as well combine some things so it can be found easily rather than starting a new thread and have two replies.

Yes, it is an excellent caliber for whitetail and larger game animals. It does everything Ruger claimed it did when it was introduced.

Well I enjoyed reading this thread. I do like the 480 Ruger and intend to take a blackbear with mine. It is cool to read a thread that is not just a bash fest.

im a big fan of the 480 Ruger as well, it's a awesome caliber, and IIRC i thought i heard that the 480 Ruger was good out of the bbl in the Alaskan.
