45 super in a glock 30s?

The day has come

Stag, The big bore guys have dropped buffalo with airguns (pix on youtube). If I want a 500-1000 FPE rifle, I'll shoot powder. Airguns (for me) is a form of shooting that I can do in my suburban back yard. I live too far away to shoot powder rifles often. Sheesh, it's been years.

I am totally against these high powered air-guns, as it will eventually lead to us being regulated. (and it is highly debated in the hobby) Currently it is legal to have a fully silenced airgun (we call them mouse-fart quiet) to shoot in our back-yards. A felon can't legally own a bolt action 22 LR, but he can own a fully auto 9mm silenced air-gun. Fortuneately they are no longer offered, but I hope you get my point.

It will only get us regulated sooner, just like Europe has (and don't even ask about our brothers up north in Canada.) Nothing over 500 Feet/Sec for them, and nothing over .177 cal for our friends in Illinoise.

Or, if you own a Glock 20

What I tried that worked very well, was to get a replacement barrel for my Glock 20, in this case for 9x25 Dillon. This is a 10mm case necked down to 9mm. Underwood has ammo for it, and the 124 grain hollow point flies out at 1700 fps, generating 802 ft-lbs! Recoil is manageable, but it is a very loud round.

Are there dies out there for resizing/reloading for it? Sounds interesting. I have a hard time shooting my 20sf because of the mag release button--always have to fiddle with my grip to around it.

PS--I noticed the cartridge has a bit of a shoulder since it's necked down--does it actually headspace off the shoulder? That would be an advantage IMO.

I pumped up my glock 20 to handle full-power loads--I think the stock set-up would have flown south pretty quick. Interestingly, my experience was that heaviest recoil spring doesn't necessarily make the gun handle recoil better. I have no experience with glock's 45--but from what I've heard the XD should handle +p's no problem.

What all did you do to strengthen the 20? Where'd did you get the parts?

what is considered full power? I've noticed the self defense ammo puts out a lot more noise, flame and recoil than the range ammo I buy. Is the self defense stuff still considered low power?

Pretty much anything in the 1350 fps or more and 700 ftlbs or more energy is what I consider full power. I went to a single piece stainless guide rod with 20 to 22 # mainsprings and a wilson combat buffer. I also bought EFK and Lone Wolf barrels that have full-case support--not having that with high-power 10's is asking for trouble.

The whole point of .45 Super is getting .45" bullets up to high velocity, so shooting it out of a short-barreled gun defeats the purpose.
And, the whole point of carry guns chambered in .45 ACP is big bullets at moderate velocities, with low muzzle blast and recoil, so you'd be giving that up in the process.
.45 Super is fun in a 6" gun.

I recently tried some of that liberty 45 +p out of my 4" XD--presumably that sucker is traveling at around 1900 +/- fps and around 600 ftlbs energy. Good enough for me--shoots great out of my XD. Anyways, for what I consider handgun deer loads I leave that up to my 10mm, 41 and 44 mag.

It's all YOUR fault bstad!:)

I just ordered a 9" lone wolf 9 x 25 dillon barrel which I'm having cut down and target crown put on. Also found a set of dies at grafs. Since I alraedy reload for both 10mm and 9mm--this was a very hard decision I reluctantly made. LOL
