.45 {long} Colt or .44 Magnum

I suspect that WS2 has factory 45 colt loads that would make a believer outta a .44mag fan.

I was denyin gettin old till I put bout ten rounds of 45/70 out of a seven pounder. The pleasure was gone by the eigth round.

I'll torque my .357s but the big boys get the light loads for me.

Back to the original question, either one quite adequate.

Sam

C.R.Sam,

I gotta .357 load, too.......weee!!!!
('course, you gotta shoot it inna REAL BIG GUN)

I'll take the .45 Colt. Even though handicapped by nothing but "factory" ammo. There are a few custom loaders out there doing wonderful things with this old round.
Now if you would let me use my handloads it wouldn't even be a choice.

Ah yes, the Dan Wessons! Certainly not mass produced however, do any of the wholesale houses stock DW?? It's been years since I've seen DW in a stocking retail store. I would like to try one, their prices are getting a little stiff these days, about $700.00? for the STS? I knew someone would nitpick about the Rugers in .45 Colt, they're designed for 600-1000fps with the 1X16 twist. I know they're strong enough, I've got Ruger SAs in .454-.475 and .500 bit they're customs. The factory Rugers come with undersized chambermouths (typically .450) that ruin any chance of accuracy with cast bullets.

Henry...saw a .41mag smith not long ago that scattered em all over the place, chamber mouths were undersized, after reamin them the gun turned into a tack driver.

Hello Sam, you've touched on a sore spot of mine with your S&W .41 story. Along with the Rugers in .45 Colt that come with undersized chambermouths, I've had to ream my S&W .44 Classic to .431 and even a couple Freedom Arms. You'd think that these companies were aware of cast bullet sizes! henry
