45 compact suggestion

The only problem I have had with my Kimber Compact Stainless II (steel frame) is that it can trigger rude noises from Kimber bashers.

I know that you said you did not want a Glock but at least look at and fondle a G30S. No other gun carries as much 45 acp in such a small, light package.

S'field also has the XD45 Mod 2 out. It's pretty much the same as the XDm except for grip texture, front sight and length. It's 6.5" long vs. 6.9" long. Capacity is the same. I've seen the 9mm Mod 2 for $440, so the .45 will probably be about the same, making it likely to be $75-$100 less than the XDm model.
I had an XD9sc about 5 years ago and shot a friend's on Sat. I'd forgotten how good that gun is. Very good feel and very accurate.

I'm impressed with H&K USP 45c. Been thinking of a H&K USP 9mm c. Not fond of plastic in guns, but H&K has gotten my attention.

If looking to carry something small and lightweight, I like my XDS. The new MOD.2 is just a tad bigger and thicker, but is a double stack and basically doubles the magazine capacity. I believe it can hold 13 in an extended mag. But this would also make it heavier on your side. I never notice my XDS when I wear it.

I also like the H & K USP 45c. I know for a compact it is a little on the large size, but for me it points and shoots very well. It has been one of the easier guns for me to shoot accurately. jben

I had an M&P 45c and don't want another one until they improve the trigger.

I don't own an M&P, but I've fired a couple with Apex trigger kits that had really, really nice triggers for a striker-fired gun. Does Apex make anything for a Compact?

You should look at the Bersa Thunder UC45, I've been pretty impressed with mine. Kind of chunky, but has a decent trigger and functions very well. Not the prettiest finish, but it works

disappointed with XDs 45

I notice several folks suggesting the XDs 45 (3.3). I was very disappointed with this pistol as I expected to love it and really didn't even like it a little bit. I like the idea of it but not the little handgun itself.

What I didn't like:
  1. The XDs did not "feel" properly balanced in my hands when presenting at a target downrange. The stress the word feel as I this isn't based on anything scientific at all, no measurements were taken to determine if it was indeed balanced or not, it just didn't feel right to me.
  2. I could not get consistent grouping with the XDs at 15 yrds. To be fair, I only shot a 100 rounds through it so this isn't a definitive measure of accuracy by any stretch of the word.

Based upon my very limited test drive, I'm happy I got a chance to shoot the XDs before making a purchase. Quite frankly I expected it to be a slam dunk in favor.

My current EDC is an XD40sc. I love Springfield's XD platform in general and the subcompact .40 works great for me. I was however hoping to reduce the number of cartridge types I have to keep around the house so I was planning that the XDs45 would allow me to drop the .40 altogether. I love shooting the .45, especially in a 1911 platform. So for me, I am getting used to carrying a commander sized 1911, 4.25in barrel.

I've read good and even great professional reviews of the Colt Defender which is even smaller than my commander, I've not fired one myself. I've read mixed reviews of the same from everyday Joe's.

Things is, Your Mileage May Very, compared to my or anyone else's. Grab a few opinions but I highly recommend trying it before you buy it. If you can find a range that has demos or rents the handgun you are thinking of purchasing. I'm very happy I did.
