45 compact suggestion

I have 1 45, a Colt 1911, Government model and about 4 or 5 9mms. I am thinking about getting another 45, only a compact or sub-compact size for carry or for in the car. Don't particularly want a Glock 21, 30, 36. I used to have an M&P45c, kind of wish I had kept it. Wouldn't mind another one, except the trigger was a problem (I had the Apex kit done to mine).

Any suggestions for another 45. Don't want another 1911 right now, at least in the compact size?

Go ahead and get a compact 1911 You know you want one:D Colt Defender or the Colt New Agent . I had both I kept my Defender. I could never get use to the New Agent gutter sight. Both were reliable and accurate

Maybe a Springfield XD Compact or XDM 3.8" would work for you. I am a fan of both of those.

Since you have a 1911, I think you'd like a Springfield XDS with the 4 inch barrel. The recoil isn't bad and they feel nice and solid.

Para has some good compact 45 I've had my eye on this executive carry for 525.00 for a couple of weeks. Also the Taurus 24/7 is another one I like.

Do you think the trigger is better on the XDS than the M&P 45c. I had an M&P 45c and don't want another one until they improve the trigger.

Greginatl, the trigger on the XDS is much better than a stock m&p hands down. It also comes with a fiber optic front sight too. It does come in the 3 in variety as well but I'd go with the 4 in because of the extra velocity you'd get. .45 acp is already a slow moving round.

I've been looking for the same thing. I handled the XDS45 and was surprised by how large it was; the impression I got from seeing it online was a smaller pistol. It's definitely thin but coupled with the Lego like checkering, I found it to be very uncomfortable. I've heard a lot of complaints about the trigger but I found it to be just fine. The compact 45's I've liked the most so far are the M&P45c, the Sig P220 compact and the HK45c. All three are heavier and I assume larger than the XD but felt much better in my hand. I own and have experience with Sigs and MP's but none outside of rentals with HK's. I think those three guns are worth a look. As for the M&P's trigger, my edc is a 9c tha was made after 2012 and has a good trigger. Do you remember if yours was made after 2012?

Fought "45 fever" for about a year. Considered P227 carry, M&P 45c, Bersa UCC45, and finally bought the XDm 45 3.8. It shoots very well, and, contrary to some, I really like the feel of the aggressive grips. BTW XD mags fit some models ( see XD Forum for details).

I'd definitely go with the XDs for a all purpose small 45.
I finally got to shoot one a few weeks ago and really liked it.

I own the XDs. It came back from recall with an 8.5 lb trigger. This was my wife's gun, but she couldn't hit with it, too much gun (I knew this would be, but she's a headstrong woman) so I "inherited" it. The few times I shot it pre-recall I thought the trigger was decent, not now. A spring kit is imminent. Talon grips are also happening. Can't think of a better carry 45, 6 in the gun with a 7 round mag in the pouch. Large holes. Not looking so much for a real light trigger, just want less creep and a crisper let-off. With some help, I'm sure I'll love it. Or so I've heard.

Try one of the S&W 3rd gen compact 45's...
like a 4516, 4596, or CS45
