.45 ammo prices

Havent ever had to shop for .45 ammo so I am not sure what a good price for ammo is. Also not sure what to stay away from.

I saw Federal 230 grain FMJ for $16 for a box of fifty.

Aldo saw the Winchester PDX Bonded JHP for $21 for a box of 20.

Are these bad prices?

Is there any ammo I should stay away from? A guy at the gun shop said I should stay away from the Winchester white box ammo. Is this true?

Thanks for the help.

IMHO that's a good price for "good" ammo.

You can do much worse, it's not bad ammo, I think he's full of it.

Honestly, I used to turn my head up at WWB before the ammo shortage, but not any more.

I think WWB is great for practice. Most of the loads seem to be pretty weak for the various calibers, so I would def mix in some of what you are loading for defense if you are using the gun defensively, but I think wwb is great for practice/plinking.

My local Walmart has Federal Champion .45 ACP for $17/50 rounds and Remington for $20/50 rounds. When they have WWB 230grn JHP, it seems to run $30/50 rounds. Local shops seem to charge $20-25/50 rounds for FMJ and about the same for 20 rounds of premium JHP's.

Avoid steel cased stuff if your using a 1911 or any other gun with an internal extractor as they are hard on that type, otherwise, use whatever is accurate and reliable in your gun.

As for the Federal stuff: Buy as much as you can afford too or as much as they will let you have, which ever applies first. Unless you reload, then just enough for you have an adequate supply of emptys.
The Winchester seem like a pretty good deal as well, just not as great as the Federal.

The wally world federal 45 has treated me just fine so far. I pick up a box every trip, it's cheaper than 50 rounds for my 380.

I've shot lots of the WWB ammo with no issues. And by lots, that means the amount of ammo for me and my grandson to go to the range, and he throws 50 rounds down range in the time it takes me to load a magazine it seems. Likely at least 5,000 rounds so far, with nary a hitch.

You need to talk your wife into an American made firearm!

Around here / any retail ammo under $ 20 for a box of 50 in .45 acp is a pretty good deal .....

which is why I've been a re-loader for over 40 yrs .... ( I can reload .45 acp for around 230gr RN for about $7.25 for 50 rds ) ...but I buy powder, primers and bullets in large quantities ... Re-loading is a great part of the shooting hobby / and most progressive presses these days have no trouble turning out 1,000 rds an hour ....

Errr. The P-32 is made by Kel-Tec in Cocoa FL.

Your prices sound good. At the local Wally World, WWB .45ACP is $32.00 per 100-rd value pack, so $16.00 per 50-rd box is an excellent price. Haven't seen anything cheaper except the foreign-made steel-cased stuff.

$25-$28 a box of 50 American made

$21-$23 a box for Eastern Europe and Brazillian

$21 a box for reloaded crap

Ah well. I'm just happy it's on the shelves now. Washington State has never been a cheap place to do anything.
