.45 ACP, still viable for military or police?

.Why are the US troops always asking for .45 ACP..." They read too many novels, gun rags and/or internet forums. Most troopies either never or very rarely even see a handgun. They have no basis of comparison. The average troopie has never fired a .45. And usually a 9mm only in training.

Mr O'Heir, I find your use of the word "troopie" to describe the military personnel of any democratic nation, extremely disrespectful to all who ever wore the uniform. I don't accept that kind of flippant slang towards our service men and women, and strongly suspect the same is true in Canada. Kindly desist...and I accept your apology in the sincere belief that you did not know the insult you were levying. Best regards, Rod

I was a US soldier for 6 long years.
"Troopie", while an odd term, is certainly not disrespectful.
US soldiers have been called "dog face", "dough boy", "GI", "squadies", "troopies", and other slang terms for many many years. And not usually out of disrespect.

I have 2 brothers who both retired out of the USMC and I call them jar-heads or gyrines all the time...it's definitely not out of disrespect.

As for the original question...

Yes the .45 ACP is still a viable option, but it really doesn't offer enough of an advantage over the 9mm to make a real difference, in my opinion.

Yes, the .45 acp is still viable.

How anyone can use this subject as opportunity to vent about political and racial issues that have nothing to do with handguns of any caliber is beyond me. Big Shrek your vitriol doesn't belong here. I challenge you to provide any evidence that police departments changing to 9 mm has reduced the effectiveness of those departments, or statistically changed anything, except maybe cost.

That the motivation for changing to 9 mm is to reduce the number of thugs killed by police, is somehow related to the BLM movement, or related in any way to the racial issues and tension between police and the residents of many inner-city neighborhoods is to quote TunnelRat, "some of the most blatant BS I’ve ever read on this forum, and that’s saying something."

And no, the 10 mm is not the answer to the OPs question, or the answer to every handgun question.
