.45 ACP rimmed VS moon clips

Well thanks for clearing that up folks! Looks like I'll need to try all the options out myself. Kinda hoped it would turn out that way.:D

I kinda like .45 Auto Rim.

Couple of reasons - - -

I can load up stoutish charges of powder with .45 Colt bullets and there's no chance of inadvertently shoving them into an auto pistol magazine. Either 1917 revolver, Colt or S&W, makes a really good, heavy duty back country sidearm. Not as good, perhaps, as a full .45 Colt, but it can easily be significantly warmer than an unmodified auto.

The target sighted S&Ws are fine hunting pieces.

If one has a .45 cartridge belt or belt slide, the Auto Rim ctgs stay in easily.

In the field, one often takes a shot at a target of opportunity--A rabbit, a snake, or just a likely-looking rock, 'way over yonder. Easy to pop out one or two empties, rather than to deal with a partial clip.

Also, I just sort of enjoy doing stuff the "old fashioned" way. The short, fat, cartridges harken back to the 1920s and 30s.

FWIW - - - - :)

AR is stouter brass. It can handle a higher pressure threshold, subject to a suitably stout gun.

You can load it to a longer OAL. Heavier bullets or more powder space.

Headspacing on the rim means stouter crimps than autos like. Less issues with bullet pull, and better ignition of slower-burning powders.

Rims work better with Blackpowder. Decisive extraction, and all that.

Rims have class, like old Jaguars. Just take a look at a round of .455 Eley/Boxer and see if you don't conjure up pictures of WWI trenches, doughboy helmets and uptight British sargeant-majors leading the way "over the top" with nothing but a swagger stick.
