45 ACP powders

Thank you Nick C S I much appreciate your response. Correct I don't want to hijack either. I like the HP-38 and use a lot of it in 9mm. Seams I am the only one experiencing this flash with no idea why.

No, I get muzzle flash from W231 in the .45 as well... but this is with a 4" barrel. It is not as great as Unique, but it's more than my sample load of BE-86.

Because my aging eyes have a hard time picking out the black on black sights in the washed out light of the indoor stall, I regularly turn the lights off in the stall when I'm shooting... so I can see the muzzle flash quite clearly.

I'm shooting 45 ACP FMJ 230 gr . using W231 4.6 grains mild load but I'm shooting Colt New Agent 3" barrel , this week I'll look for muzzle flash ,I can't say I saw one even with a 3"er . Powder is working well for me .

I like SR4756 for hot loads with 180 hollow points. This powder is now discontinued and I'm not sure what I'll replace it with when I used up the pound or so I have...

The only time I've ever noticed "muzzle flash" with WW 231 in .45 ACP is when I'm shooting my S&W Model of 1917 and I get some flash from the cylinder gap.

When I'm shooting either my Springfield 1911 A1 or my S&W 4506-1 I have never seen any muzzle flash at all.

Well, let me modify that answer... I saw a LOT of flash one time...

I was using a new press and double charged a 230-gr. LRN load with almost 10 grains of WW 231.

That was a pretty spectacular flash when it blew out the case at the extractor and blew the primer out.

Never experienced muzzle flash with HP-38/WW231. Power Pistol on the other had really produces a flash plus a strangely different recoil impulse.

I tend to stick with HP-38 with plated and jacketed bullets, Bullseye for lead SWC's. :)

BE-86 and Silhouette are performance powders that are flash suppressed. Biggest muzzle flash I get comes from WC844/H335 bolt rifles: big fireball visible on sunny days.

Really appreciate everyone's feedback of the "flash" but I really didn't mean to divert the topic at hand. Maybe I should open a new one.

The flash we are seeing is happening at an indoor range which is rather dark and this flash is not a huge one but is enough to be noticeable and distracting at this range. I have shot other loads and not seen this flash which makes it so confusing. I load a lot of this powder in the 9mm and this flash isn't there at all. Have loaded it in the 380 also and not seen it. Just when I load the 45acp.

Back on topic I am waiting to hear back from the OP about his tests with the CFE.
