.45 ACP concealed carrry - what and how?

SA champion (4inch barrel, full size frame) in a an Alessi Dual Talon Watch Six. I am 5'2, 120 lbs. I dont have a problem concealing. When my mode of dress prevents me from carry the champ, I go with a Colt Mustang pocketlite.

Glock 30 carried IWB by cordura holster strong side or SOB - very comfortable with 9-round magazine and Pearce grip extensions. Disappears on me. 250 pound 5'10" mesomorph body type.

When not IWB, nice sholder pack that discreetly carries G30 with 13-round hi caps. Not a fanny pack and people think its a PalmPilot, DayTimer, or cell phone shoulder case.

The Glock 30 is the most versatile 45 ACP with its light weight and abaility to accommodate Glock 21 hi caps for a great CCW and home defense gun.:D

Doesn't get much better when you have (14) rounds of 45 ACP magnum rounds like the 613 fpe Powermax Gold Dot ammo. Or maybe it does if you go with a Glock 29 in 10mm with some 200 grain Norma rounds and use G20 hi caps getting you (16) rounds and more fpe. You just have to reload to enjoy the 10mm to its fullest. Can't hunt with a 45 ACP other than feral hog.

If you already have some 45s, go G30.

Greeting's Again Folk's,

My Sig P220A is often times carried "Mexican
style"; covered by a University of Tenessee
long, knit shirt.:D:)

GO VOL'S

Well considering that my other carry choice is a five inch *&* N frame, I find the 1911 pattern guns easy to conceal. Good belt and holster are the key. I did carry a Combat Commander for years (the way I prefered to carry cause a full 1911 to interfere with sitting, the Commander didn't). But then I got a good deal on a Kimber Ultra CDP so that is now my choice in .45 ACP.

Being that ".45 ACP" and "Glock" were the top cartrige and gun for carry, I would suspect the Glock 30 compact would have a great deal to do with that answer. Maybe #2 after the 1911.

AMT .45 DAO Backup in a pocket holster in the right front pants pocket. Not all the time but it does work.

45ACP concealed carry

I carry a P-90 or a 1911 in a business planner cover and nobody even looks twice. Gun is literally in your hand and nobody knows . :p

I carry a Glock 36 loaded with 185 grain Golden Sabers, in a Sidearmor IWB. It disappears under a t-shirt. Wear it right over the label of my Arizona (notice not Levi's) jeans or shorts. Carry a spare mag in a Gerber knife pouch, fits just right and you don't have to worry about anybody noticing it.

Glock 36 with Proload 185gr JHP in an Alessi Watch Six Dual Talon and a spare mag on my belt in a horizontal mag holder. Lotta punch in a small light package. Thinking about switching to Federal 200gr +P EFMJ for cooler weather.

I don't carry my .45 every day, but when I do, it's a USP45C in a IWB, Blade-Tech kydex holster. Mostly in cooler weather (or at least not so hot :)).

CARRY - DON'T BE CHEAP

I 'wear' a gun, so it must be comfy. High-quality BELT and HOLSTER are only starting point; finding what's comfy for you is what's tricky (and often costly).

Grip length is a key component of concealment, and barrel length seems to affect comfort more.
A 5" 1911 is about the perfect size for the normal range of "man"-sizes, and same for women when worn with appropriate gear.

Contact Milt Sparks Holsters for expert advice.

Like JimFox said, be carefull of your posture too. I've changed the way I reach so that my shirt does not ride up and expose what I have concealed.

I have forced myself to use my left hand for reaching things that require an extended reach so that my right hand helps keeps my shirt down over my weapon.

This left handed technique was put to the test while I was playing craps at a local casino. I always used my right hand to reach down for the dice and place my bets. Now I force myself to toss the dice and place my bets left handed, keeping the right hand by my side to prevent my shirt from riding up and exposing my weapon. No big deal just a change of habit is all it is.

I do the kneel or squat routine also at a store instead of bending over to look at something down low, it really does help to keep the weapon concealed.

And when I go to Church, the Bible carrying case has plenty of room for one Bible and a gun too. I just make sure that I partially unzip the case to slide the Bible out for use and slide it back in over the gun.

I carry both a G30 in an M/D Enterprises SVS and a Colt Commander top end mounted on a Para P12 stainless lower in an I-BAK from Tony Kanaly. Granted in the Texas summer I rarely carry a .45, but I was in Indianapolis for 18 months and it snowed for at least 9 of those months which made concealment easy.

Try the Taurus PT145 or the Ruger P97. The Taurus holds 10+1 rounds in a compact frame. The Ruger is slightly larger, slightly heavier, maybe narrower, and holds 8+1 rounds. The Ruger is considered to be more rugged. Both have plastic frames that are virtually indestructable. The Ruger P97 is great for guys with smaller hands.

If you want a metal frame pistol, try the Taurus PT945. It holds 8+1 rounds and is comparable to the Ruger P97. The Ruger P90 is a great pistol with a metal frame, but is slightly larger than the P97.

The best all-around self-defense/home defense cartridge in .45 ACP is Federal's 230-grain Hydra-shok JHP. 230-grain Speer Gold Dot is good and so is the 230-grain Remington Golden Sabre. Stay away from the 185-grain stuff! You use .45 ACP ammunition to make big holes, not for velocity.

A good holster is the leather Triple-K skeleton holster. Slides on your belt and holds your pistol tightly against your hip--right where you want it. And it doesn't make you look like you're wearing a colostemy bag. You can conceal it with a jacket or blazer, or if you want to look grungy, with your shirttail out.

I guess you might consider my response cheating...I carry my H&K full size USP .45 in a belly bag. Generally it lives under the fron seat of my car...I am blessed to live in a relatively crime free part of PA.

However, I am looking into a smaller "summer" alternative. It's not really the size or weight, it's just that shorts and a tshirt make for challenging carry regardless of the gun.:D
