.45 ACP and .45 Colt

SO, spend the money to have a Judge altered to take moon clips for the ACP? I can't see why. Economy? Doubtful. How many boxes of acp would have to be shot for the price difference between them an .45 Colt to equal the cost of the conversion? Going to shoot the Judge that much? And winding up with (most likely) unusable brass doesn't get you much until you sell it for scrap by the pound!

I agree. I considered the conversion for my Redhawk but decided against it for many of the same reasons.

keep in mind

the 45 ACP (usually) works out of a semi auto pistol ( and couple revolvers) and the 45 LONG colt is for revolvers. 45 LONG (revolver) as opposed to 45 ACP usually semi's.......................

Is that a typo?

Few would argue that the .45 ACP is an excellent self-defense cartridge
Is that a typographical error or a misspeak of grammar, or what?.

I personally know NO ONE who believes that the 45 ACP is inadequate as a self-defense cartridge (against people). Where most discount it against the .40 or 9mm is in magazine capacity.

Is that what you meant? If so, I can understand. If not, I have no idea what you are talking about. Can you explain, please?

What do you want the Judge for?

I seriously cannot think(other than a novelty item) why anybody would want one. They are not small enough for a good defensive handgun and they I've heard they don't shoot either the .410 or the .45 colt very well. It's neither fish nor fowl.

I had my 625MG converted last year. Ammo was extremely scarce, with .45LC's being impossible to come by. Even now, they are scarcely in stock, where as .45acps are somewhat readily avialable. For the $75 and $20 in clips, I think it was worthwhile to increase the vesitility and still be able to shoot it.

If the Judge were modified to shoot .45 ACP with moon clips, it would no longer shoot .45 Colt or .410, as removing material from the rear of the cylinder to accommodate the clips would cause the rimmed rounds to chamber too far from the firing pin.
I don't see why, unless the Judge has particularly thin chamber walls. The outside esge of the cylinder would not be cut, allowing them to hold the rimmed cartridges where they below. The moon-clips just connect to the inside(cylinder-side) of the rim-less ammo, elevating it to as if resting on the outside ring of the cylinder.

As the rest of Webley's comment suggests, what he surely meant to say is:

"Few would argue that the .45 ACP is not an excellent self-defense cartridge..."
