45-70 Whitetail Load

And, just out of curiosity, if the recoil of the 400gr .45-70 @1500 fps was too much, why not just drop down to regular factory load levels (approx 1300fps)??

Cervical fusion and I had someone chomping to buy it. I heartily agree with pistol bullet comments, so the only bullets I use in the 450 are the 250FTX and the 300gr Casull.
 
I’m using a 350 gr Hornady Interlock with 48 grains of RL-7 out of a 22” Marlin 1895 45-70. Plenty accurate for where I hunt in rather dense woods.
 
GT Bulllets makes some great soft cast hollow points. I used in a 458 Socom. They expand at moderate velocities and would dump a lot of energy into a deer.
