45-70 Guide Gun

Six 4 Sure: I have one of the early Marlin 1895 .45-70s with the 20" barrel, half mag, straight stock. I use a Williams Foolproof receiver sight on it. I'd call it the perfect rifle to carry in bear country. Light and handy and plenty of power for close work. I don't care for the crossbolt safety the Marlin boys are putting on the new guns.

I have one of Wild Wests Co-pilots ( non-take down) with a hard chrome finish and synthitic stocks. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! The piece seems plenty stout enough to handle anything the shooter can take. Any form of the piece seems to get universal acclaim.

As to the sights. Most seem to be in aggreement with a ghost ring rear sight. They work well. As to a front sight, Trijicon makes a front night sight that works GREAT in good, low or alomst no light. Works (for me) much better than a fiber optic.

And yes, Wild West Guns does seem to have a "New York" attitude but they do nice work.

I have the Marlin 45-70 GG and I fell in love with the first time I picked up a friend of mines gun. I bought it before hunting season last year, was firing the 12 or 13 round through it when the firing pin broke! It was 2-3 weeks before hunting season started! As it was Marlin got it back the Friday before the season, but I was not able to get it sighted in that year.

I used it this year and it killed my only dear this year deader than a hammer. The only downside was that it was supposed to be a doe, but turned out to be a button buck.

I'll use it again this weekend and the last week of this year.
