.44 Magnum Opinions

Randy,
re: The Model 29. What type of grips does it wear?
Is there a good commercial loading for defensive use in a medium velocity?

My present non carry setup is Model 29-2. 4" w/factory target style grips, loaded with Winchester Silvertips.- Sometimes house gun. If Ohio ever gets around to a CCW law, I would strongly consider the 29, box stock and all, it just plain shoots better than most of my other stuff. My feeling is that the real limiting factor is a good med vel round. Via handloading, I can get pretty much what I want, but the closest I can find in factory ammo is 3D cowboy loads for the .44 Mag. The bullet shape on the 3D is terrible though for defensive use.

DorGunR, That is the most convincing argument I have heard yet as to why to buy a gun. I'm definitely gonna use your line in the future. Hope you don't mind. ha ha ha Man, that is perfect! Thanks -ddt

Randy, you're probably correct as far as the Super Redhawk goes, and that's why Ruger went with it. It also has the ability to hold 6 .454's vs. probably 5 .454's in the Super Blackhawk. Also, the decision was a marketing choice as well. How many single actions can a company sell vs. DA's? New shooters think that SA's are old fashoned. "You mean that I have to pull the hammer back every time? That's not cool." type of attitude.
