44 Mag recoil ?

I would use the W231 powder for your 240 gr slugs, between 8½ and 9 grains should give you around 1100 fps and be pretty pleasant to shoot. Lighter loads with W231 are of course possible, but they burn cleaner at the higher pressures. Xtreme makes a 240 gr round nose flat point bullet with a cannelure, so roll crimps work well. I shoot them in my 629 Classic over 7.0 grains of 700X with great accuracy. Velocity is between 950 and 1,000 fps.

My .44Mag plinking load is about 6 gr of Red Dot under a 200g Extreme plated bullet. Fun to shoot, and easy on the hands.

I broke out the old 41 magnum a couple years back.

Those load I had not a problem with when I worked construction, man those hurt.

Ahh well, can't see the sights too good either.

Load er down till its fun again. Get as close as you need to make good groups!

Thanks again for all the advise fellas, I really appreciate it.

I've got a pretty good supply of unique on hand and to save the more expensive Winch. 240 grainers I believe I'll try that under the Xtreme plated 240's first.

From looking at "lead" data for the 240 gr. Xtremes minimums and maximums vary quite a bit......just like data always does when comparing different books.

Lyman 2nd Ed. Pistol & Revolver = min. 9.8 grs @ 912 fps.......max. 13.0 grs. @ 1147 fps. (univ. receiver & 245 gr.)

Speer # 11 = min. 6.5 grs. @ 767 fps........max 7.0 grs. @ 923 fps. (10" Dan Wesson)

Hornady 4th Edition. = min. 6.7 grs @ 800 fps........max. 8.5 grs. @ 1000 fps. (7.5" Blackhawk)

Thanks again.

I load 240 SNS Lead bullets with Unique I load 10.2 gr and checking speed I am looking at close to 950/1000 fps out of a 4.5 barrel . This load is not a light load but not a max load I have zero leading in the barrel . I shoot a lot of this load I average 400 to 500 per week if weather lets me shoot . I clean this gun a Ruger three screw once a week yes it is really dirty .

I've used 8-10gr of Unique for decades. I use 240-255 LSWC, but the 240WW will be fine. 16-18gr of 2400 will recoil more, but you'll be over 1100fps.

I just started messing around with 44 magnum and unique. I did a ladder test from 7 to 9 and am gonna try out some from 9 to 10 grains. Everything from 7 to 9 felt fine out of a rossi m92 lever action.
