.41 special and .41 mag, .44 special and .44 mag

I guess this is a subject for another thread- lightening up a model 57 for daily carry.

The REAL point of the .41 Special is that it lets you use a gun that is "too small" for .41 Magnum. It comes into its own when you chamber a gun that is perfect for .357 Magnum or so. A Ruger GP100, for instance. Or an older .357 Blackhawk on the small frame. The S&W M696 in .41 Special would have been sweet. It would cost a fortune to pay for the custom work but something like the S&W M15 would be ideal for a duty gun or for field use. I would be thrilled to buy a new Vaquero or Flattop in .41 Special. (Or .44 Special for that matter!)

Ouch!!! For what Midway wants I'll gladly trim down my own. 50/51.99

That's what I thought as well.

I think we need a couple things to happen. The Cowboy shooters drive so much of this stuff. If they would come forward and announce that .41 Special would be treated "like" .41 Long Colt, that would be the critical step. Then cowboy shooters would be allowed to use the caliber in competition. Sudden demand for guns and cartridges. Starline could then step up and start making the brass. And Ruger could chamber the new XR3 Vaquero in .41 Special. IMO, if all those things happened, it would be a success. The ball would be rolling downhill. Ammo companies would start making cowboy loads. Some of the SAA makers would start chambering for it. Etc.

Say, noob question here...

You guys talk about 357 Magnum, and 38 Special. 44 Magnum, and 44 Special, and how there is no counterpart to the 41 Magnum.

Is there a counterpart to the .500 S&W Magnum?
