.41 Magnum

How I wished Lew Horton had requested the M57 to be built in a combat model like the other calibers. I have a factory 3" M657, but a 3" M57 would be much nicer. It would fit in just nice with the M24-3, and M29-3 Combats. There is also suppose to be a M25-2 Combat, but I have yet to see or hear of anyone actually having one. If anyone know of where one may be found please keep me in mind (I know this is a shameless plug, but sometimes we do what we have to do :D).

Majic,

I'm with ya there. When Lew Horton's M657 "snubbies" came out I'd just been tossed out of work 3 weeks prior and was trying to conserve cash. Saw them in Shotgun News for, I think, $263.50 each. :( I'd still like to find one though... Another thought was to find a 696 and have a 'smith convert it into a 5-shot .41...

Man I love the 41. This thread is heroic. All of a sudden, I am feeling irresistable impulses to go buy a SW 657. Does anyone know how the Federal 250 grain castcore shoots out of the Smith? I have heard the twist is too slow to stabilize the heavier bullets.

I have two m57's and desperately want....NEED one more. Both of mine are fed plenty of cast bullets for economy. Both will go for many rounds before starting any lead buildup, and accuracy is great. This is probably due to the very smooth bores and quality cast bullets. Can't compare to a Ruger as I've no experience with .41 caliber blackhawks, but would surely recommend the S&W 57. Sure are purty, too.

TKR,
I never had the slightest interest in the .41 Mag, till I borrowed one from S&W for a project. Just finished the range work with it yesterday.
It will be staying on here. Needs some adjustment, but I'm thinking it can handle my "light work", with the .44 Redhawk & Garrett Hammerheads reserved for the heavy stuff.
In the four-inch barrel, I got a best group of 2 1/4 inches with the Federal CastCore loads, running at an average of 1108 FPS with a standard deviation of 14. That's at 4500 feet elevation, 95 degree weather.
That load, incidentally, will be the one carried in the gun, at least until or unless I get over the lazies & reload for it myself.
Did run out of rear sight adjustment on the CastCore, shoots about three inches high at 25 yards.

I picked up this m57 no dash last month. M57 sure are sweet. :D
