.41 mag loading with Sierra bullets question

Love me some 41....

Hard to go wrong with the 41 and a 200-210 grain bullet. The 2400 will work well for your intended use, but if you happen across some AA-7 or 9 later on, don't hesitate to pick up a pound or three, they are great.

Those Speer bullets RC mentioned were some of my favorites before they were dropped. You did have to keep them in the mid range of the data but it didn't matter cause they shot awesome. My other favorite has been the Remington bulk 200gr SJHP if or when you can find them. I load those over a dose of 296, and they do all I have ever needed done. Contrary to what you would think this particular load isn't a big blaster either, but it will shoot flat and pound a hog at 100yds or a bit further.

To be honest I haven't really found a BAD powder for the 41, some were a bit dirty, and some have a bit more flash and bang than I like, but they have all produced very acceptable accuracy. I have been hunting with mine since the early 80's and couldn't even try to put a number on how many rounds have been run through it.

For nice moderate loads, I've been using 8-8.2 gr of Green Dot for about 30 years. Very pleasant recoil, great accuracy and economical. I've used this with 210-220 gr LSWC, Copper coated, and HiTec coated bullets with equal results. I've also tried Unique, since this seems to be the go-to for most people with a .41, but the recoil was snappier than the GD so I just stick with GD now. For full on magnum loads using jacketed either Accurate#9 or 2400 have worked well, but the 2400 has more of a push for recoil and the barrel runs cooler, whereas the #9 is snappier and runs hot but both are the same accuracy wise.

Thanks for the tip. There's a store (basically a warehouse) about an hour from me that has it in stock for about $20 a pound. I'm guessing it's cheaper to drive there than it would be to pay the shipping on that stuff.
