.40 S&W

My Walther PPS .40 is my edc. It amazes me every time I shoot it becausae its small, yet extremely accurate. I also have a P99 in .40 and love it.

really? I found a major difference in muzzle flip and snappiness on the .40's part. For me there was a HUGE difference between the 2 calibers, especially the .45GAP.

And yet I honestly can barely tell the difference between shooting my P229 in 40 and my son's P6 in 9mm. My son says they feel about the same to him too and he's 13. I know SIGs are pretty heavy guns but I also carry and shoot an 18oz .45 Kahr and find it quite easy to shoot so I guess recoil and "muzzle flip" are very subjective. I always wonder about the crowd who complain about recoil in these mild calibers as far as their grip and such. I would really like to go shooting with someone who thinks the 40 S&W is too harsh and just watch them shoot for a while. Not running anyone down or anything here, just alway been curious

Since I bought my XD40, I've become a big fan of the .40. I'm not sure if it's the gun or the round but my XD is the sweetest shooting auto-loader that I have owned or fired.

First gun was a .40...Glock 22 second Gen. Love the .40 round, and I personally do not notice the "snappiness" that everyone speaks of :p Maybe because it's the first pistol I mastered?

Also...I've heard Glocks like mine in .40 S&W go kaboom :( Mine was a police officers since 1992 or so...on one hand...it's been okay all this time, it's not one to go "kaboom" on the other hand I have, it's been used and shot 30,000 rounds it's going to give out any second now!

I really hope it's the first option -___-

Anyways, yes.... .40 is a very powerful and potent round.

Two of the best 40 cal weapons I've owned are the XD and the FNP, both are right up there with my Sig as far as accuracy and reliability.

Love the Forty

I have two pistols in that caliber - the Glock 22 and the Sig P229. Both are great guns but I especially love the Sig. I tend to shoot the 9MM the most cause it's the cheapest to shoot in the centerfire line. +1 on the M&P. It's one of the nines I own and it's a terrific shooter. I would trade in my Glock for one in the .40, but it is a NRA limited edition. :) As to accuracy, the Sig is one of the best that I own.

when the taurus slimline 740 came out I had several request for that holster so I bought one just to make holsters with. but to my surprise that little gun shoots great. I have a range in my back yard and I have now put about 500 flawless rounds through it and it is a amazing little gun. for a 40 cal the recoil is not bad at all. G27 is my edc but I have carried this little 40 a few times

Well I have owned a HK USP in. 40 S&W.... I would say it's not very fun shooting that caliber because I hate it.... but maybe it just hates me. Its a redundant caliber. This is all just my 2 cents. Take it with a grain a salt for all I care. Hopefully others have better luck with it. Maybe I will try it out again one day. But in the mean time... im pretty happy with. 45 ACP. Its been around a long time. And for good reason.

I enjoyed shooting my XD-40, but sold it to clear a caliber off my shelf and finance an XDm-9 ... IMHO, either a 9mm or .45 are excellent SD rounds and .40 is kinda superfluous ...

If either 9mm or .45 ACP are excellent SD rounds, then it could be argued that one of them is therefore superfluous. :D

Tell that to the FBI. They spent a lot of money on cartridge and caliber testing after 9mm and .38 specials failed to be "good enough" in a certain Miami/Dade county shootout. They finally came up with a reduced load for the 10mm, and then S&W stuck it in a shorter case.

Is the 9mm good? Yep. Is the .40 S&W a little better? The FBI seems to think so. They sure haven't switched back.

I have been fairly impressed with the 40. I've never really been a big polymer fan but this year bought a Gen 4 G22 and put TFO sights on it, I must say the new texturing and backstrap options with the new spring system have allowed for great comfort and far better than excepted accuracy once a bit of time with the safety trigger. I've been shooting at 50 and 100 yards as well and get a surprising hit %.

I've benn so impressed with the package I surrendered to the plastic and picked up a G23 as well for occaisona carry.

I'm still a fan of the 9mm and think with the excellent ammo choices it is still a viable cartridge but I do think the .40 s&w has an edge. Almost all of the law enforcement agencies including my city and county have gone to the .40 s&w. All of the testing results have all been favorable including the FBI's. It is often looked upon as the best balance of power/recoil/capacity.
