.40 S&W or .357 Sig - Which will Penetrate Better?

If you want to shoot nasty animals I would go with the Glock 20 in 10mm with stiff handloads. If bears are the problem forget semi auto's and get good 44 magnum like a 4 inch 629. Personally I like my 5 shot ruger redhawk converted by hamilton bowen to 45 colt that launches a 350 grain lead slug at 1350 from a 5.5 inch ported barrel.

DougB,

Get a flair as well. Most animals are scared of fire, and a nice road-side flare will cost you $0.99 tops, and it might save your life when your .357Sig and .40 won't.

Just a thought. Light the flare, hold it in one hand, empty the gun that's in your other hand, and tell use how you survived and how you'd never go hunting with a semi-pistol anymore :-)

Oh yeah! I forgot! It was staring me right in the face the whole time, and I completely missed it!

You want to protect yourself from Cougar and Bear, and you, like me, really appreciate the handling and operation of a good semi-auto pistol... Only ONE answer, and even the "magnum wheelgun, semi-auto's need not apply" guys can't argue with it!

DESERT EAGLE!!!! .357magnum, .41AE, .44Magnum, .50AE!!!
There's an "application" that you can't turn down! :D
