Well a buddy just sent me the link to this story. In canada a man got arrested and his house was searched without a warrant because his 4 year old daughter drew a picture of a gun in kindergarden!
Obviously in canada police can enter your house whenever they want if you are a registered gun owner.

thats just mad, welcome to communism...

Link didn't work for me, but this one does...

It's good that the media there (I know nothing of Sun News) was taking the side of the father, and pointing out the logical (and legal) ridiculousness of the situation.

I wish I knew more about how Canadian law worked, but I'm betting that would be massive grounds for an unlawful search and seizure lawsuit here in the states.

Though I'm not quite sure how communism applies in this case...

There are no communists anymore. There are just capitalists whose capital of choice is power over individuals. There were probably very few actual economic communists at any time, at least in any position of power. Gun grabbers are no different.

The point behind gun grabbing is that it collects votes from gun fearers. Votes are power.

Stories like this are exactly why I don't live in Canada.

My 4 yr old shoots her little pink Crickett .22 bolt gun on the bench to my left when I go to the range. I wonder what the Canadian authorities would do to me over that huh? I mean its either her mother or I supervising when she shoots but she knows how to the cartridge, operate the bolt, sight in and shoot. Knocks soda cans off posts at 25yds pretty consistently too!

Try this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Canada It's Wikipedia so it may not be 100% accurate.

After going through the home, executing a warrant, police found a see-through plastic toy that fires plastic darts.

...the officers identified the weapon that was being drawn was, in fact, a replica toy gun in the residence...

The junior kindergarten teacher saw it, questioned Neveah about it, and feared there was a gun in the girl's home that the children were playing with. The school called social services, who in turn called the cops.

The family is trying to decide what to do next, and they are finding a new school for their children to attend.

The family is considering their legal options and have contacted a lawyer.

They also said comments by Sansone's daughter, Neaveh, that the man holding the gun in the picture was her dad and "he uses it to shoot bad guys and monsters," was concerning.

Sounds like he's defending his family from danger in her eyes, how is that something to be concerned about? I mean sheeesh, if you're gonna lie to violate one of your citizens at least do a better job of it.

The things I drew while in school would've probably had me executed if things were like that here.........well things probably ARE like that here in some places, sadly.

Schools are funny that way,,,

I'm 60 years old,,,
When I was in the 5th grade,,,
My Mom got called in because of a "disturbingly violent" painting I created.

I painted a scene where an F-86 Sabre jet was strafing a field of Chinese Communist soldiers.

Apparently my 5th grade teacher had forgotten that she had spent a month reading "Sabre Jet Ace" to us in class.

It's not just the Canadians,,,
And it isn't really a new phenomenon.

I too got into pseudo trouble after doing a drawing of humans, orks, and dwarves fighting it out, right after we watched the Hobbit (complete with battle at the end). Derp de derp!

And maybe a new country to live in?

You can't flip through the channels on a typical cable system for more then 20 minutes without seeing a gun, probably less. Why would it be unreasonable for a kid to know what one looks like?

That's not surprising since even the Canadian Customs Agents were just recently issue'd sidearms. I believe within the last year or so.

(They call it Democracy now...)

Wow, that's discouraging in the least. One time when the kids were young and we were out shooting, and one of the kids had taken off his muffs and after someone shot, he asked what that ringing in his ears was? So I joked with him and said that's freedom, and what is meant the line in the song...let freedom ring.

The next week he came home from school with a picture of (my) Street Sweeper with the words Let Freedom Ring scrawled across it! No phone calls or charges on that one. :)

It turns out that the "gun" in question was a "nerf" pistol that the father used to reassure his daughter that he could protect her from monsters in her closet. Yes, "insane" doesn't even begin to describe how FUBARed this situation is. Re: the "warrant" vs "no warrant" situation, since this fellow didn't have a firearms licence, they had to apply for a warrant to search his home; if he HAD had a firearms licence, they could have searched it without a warrant, as owning a gun in Canada is technically a crime, and a licence is only permission to allow you to commit that "crime".

My 4 year old draws pictures of guns all the time. He also prays out loud before he eats. I am glad I live in the heartland and not in Canada or one of the more liberal states...

Hello from Canada...

yup I'm Canadian, so I can clear up a few legal matters.

1st; If you have a possession or a possession and acquisitions licenses (yes there are 2 types, and 3 different classes) police don't need a warrant to search your house (thats just a licenses not a registered firearm).

2nd; ALL firearms need to be registered

3rd; Taking your 4 year old child shooting would be considered child abuse (I got in trouble when I was having a firearms safety talk with my 6 year old nephew).

4th; SDC you said it "Gun control in Canada: making the streets safer for rapists, muggers, and other violent criminals since 1936."

5th; Arming the CBSA yeah that was done in 2006 (so it's amazing our army has the C7, and not some muzzle loader).

so in my opinion Canadian Gun laws are moronic and do nothing to help the law abiding citizen.
It is my belief that every house hold should have a .22 rimfire, a .30 cal, and a 12 gauge shotgun.

I live close to the Canadia (yeah, Canadia, I meant to do that) border, so I heard about this the other day on the radio. I immediately called in a started in on the broadcaster for her support of the police and I have to say, I think I did a dern fine job... At least it sounded that way on my end... :p

One of her big "lines" was that "we have to protect the children from these guns, so I understand the police on that..."

Umm... More kids are killed each year by swimming pool drownings than with guns of any kind... I don't see the SWAT teams storming many swimming pools.

Told her that a lot of people fear guns because they don't know anything about them, much like most people don't know much abot a circular saw. I know people that are scared of both, both can kill you if used improperly, but both can be very useful tools when used properly...

Then I went into the "guns are not inherently evil blah, blah blah..." you've all heard it. I thought she was going to freak out when I mentioned that my 4 year old daughter knows how to shoot and I've taken her many times...

I have to say, as crappy as the gun laws are in Michigan, I do have to say they're better then the ones in Canadia...

My brother had a boy, went out got him a shotgun, for the boy. Same for my kid, he has a 410 double got when he was 4.

Good thing the child didn't draw a picture of a can of beer or donuts! The entire police force would have raided the guys house! When did they pass a law in Canada against drawings? Don't they have TV or movies in Canada? What if the child had made a picture of an elephant? Would they have sent a zookeeper to the house? Can you sue for false arrest in Canada?
