.380 choices

My only .380 is the tried and true Makarov. It is reliable to a fault. I recommend it highly. :)

Voodoo,
I went shopping for a small carry pistol about six months ago. I didn't have any price in mind, just quality, reliability, & size. I looked at pretty much all the pistols mentioned here (except the CZ: can't find them in Connecticut anywhere) and decided on the Bersa. I own two. One is a early model with a 13 round clip.
I held the Bersa and the PPK side by side and decided on the Bersa Thunder for many reasons. At this point, price did enter into the decision. I could buy two Bersa pistols for the price of one PPK. The PPK was too small for my hand and would have required new grips. Lots of sharp edges, too. The Bersa has been perfect in every way: very reliable, easy to shoot (my 17 year old daughter loves it) and easy to wear in a IWB holster. So, IMHO, the Bersa fit my requirements. It is also DA/SA which makes it easy to carry with one in the chamber. Flip the safety and squeeze off the first round.
The .380 is a great "bridge" cartrige in my opinion. It is not a huge load but does what it does very well.

I think the Walther and SIG .380's are truly excellent firearms. The PPK and 232 are equals in my opinion. And, in third place (or first if budget is a major factor) is the Makarov .380. It is a Walther design derivative, with a reputation for reliability (though admitedly not as finely crafted), for about 1/3 the price.

I agree with Johnwill. I've had my Mustang Pocketlite for over three years and it's yet to have a malfunction of any type. Weighs just 12.5 ounces. Locking barrel. Works just great. I shoot Hydra-Shok's and Glasers from mine. I have it on my hip right now and it is almost invisible in a M/D Enterprises BS-2. Straight blow back .380's have much more recoil than Mustangs.
I'm awfully tempted to send my Mustang to S&McD for the carry package. I think my Mustang would look great with a black frame and a polished stainless slide. Nice!

Mustang pocketlite all the way. Browning design means minimal recoil. Single action means rapid fire ability. Only downer was the safety was not really positive. A great gun accurate, reliable, light.

Send that Mustang to SM&A, and Mac Scott will give the safety a positive detent, along with a host of other improvements. It's their PCP (Pocket Carry Package), highly recommended.

Here's my Mustang, along with my NAA Guardian, both have had the SM&A PCP treatment.
