.380 alternatives to the LCP

Well, I went with the LCP. It's the new red-trigger "custom" model, no laser. The sights are going to be slightly more snag-able than the low-profile earlier model, but having more substantial sights is reassuring to me. Not a fan of the shiny red trigger but that it is metal is a plus i guess. I'll probably be getting a hogue grip for it at some point.

It was a toss up between the LCP and the TCP. Honestly they felt about the same in my hand. I've read alot of good stuff about the TCP, but I think in the end I may have paid $100 more for the name and service history of Ruger even though most evidence seems to be that I'd never need service for a TCP.

Unfortunately, I didn't end up getting the chance to try it first but it was a matter of the tax refund money is going to get spent one way or another so better get a gun quick before it's gone. Thus, I jumped. Going to pick it up on Monday. One nice addition was that since I was buying a gun they let me buy a nice 325ct box of range-reserved .22LR.

Will report back when I've had a chance to put some through it.

Many thanks to you all for your advice and answers. It was much appreciated.

Congrats on the new Elsie :)

On another note, this is the most pathetic symptom of the 22lr shortage I've read yet....

Sad it is, but I do understand the need to keep enough .22LR at hand for your range customers. They sell it generally when they have it (grabbed a 500 box a few months back) but there's actually a sign up saying that they don't sell .22lr at this time except to those using the range and then only 100rds at a time.

They didn't have a single non-specialty 380 round for general sale either!

Any folks have opinions as to whether to get the laser or not?
If you are using this gun for the intent that is was designed for there is no need for lasers or sights. This is a point and shoot weapon, as statistics shows in a defense situation there will be no time to aim.

Congrats on the new LCP! I looked at the Custom model too but didn't want the sights like that to be honest and the pretty trigger didn't grab me either. I am VERY pleased with mine and it is on me more than the LCR's that I own now a days.

As for .22LR, its easy to find in my area now. I buy it daily. .22WMR is not easy to find.

My Discrete carry .380: S&W Bodyguard.

I like the trigger on this better than the LCP that my uncle and dad has.

Congrats Herluf on making a good choice.

I just traded in my TCP on a second generation LCP and could not be happier.

My TCP started jamming, the last shot hold open would release upon dropping the empty mag. It probably just needed the "fluff and buff" treatment, but I like the fact that the LCP is good to go from the factory. It is also finished much finer than the Taurus TCP.

The ONLY .380 I've seriously considered, recently, is the LC380, which is the Ruger LC9 modified to shoot the .380 round. That should make it a more comfortable gun to use...

I've owned both the P3AT and LCP and found them both unpleasant guns to shoot. The P3AT, due to it's slightly smaller trigger guard actually painfully hit my trigger finger during recoil; the LCP did not. Except for that difference, all I can say is that the LCP is a little prettier. Both shot reasonably well.
