.38 woods round

The .38 is just fine here in Mn. I've run into more dog pack's and strange folk than anything else. I take a lot of grouse with handguns so I usually use cast bullets.

It's would be nice. Think 45 colt would do. Something about a old saa in 45 tickles my fancy. 357 or a 45acp might be on the list first.

A 4" .38 Special is fine for 2 legged threats as so many police reports show, However a .357 is much more powerfull and can shoot +P's ( I carry them in my Vaquero)
The best bear meicine is a 12ga stuffed with "OO" Buck and a couple slugs. It does raise some attemtion because its. well so big! A 12ga is pretty good for just about any situation. You still have to aim with it but the pattern is devistating!
I was brought up with the .38 Special and own a Chief for discreet carry and a Model 10HB for power and accuracy, plus the extra round of ammo. It's very accurate and the 4" bbl makes some power!
I don't shoot +P's in either of my .38's.
Besides the 12 GA I have a 20GA SxS so the wife can fire it comfortablly. Me too when my Disability is acting up. The 20 GA with #3 Buckshot loads is very adequate for defense. Ask the FBI.

Yep, carry the .38 for two legged threats and a light 12 gauge for bears.

Inexpensive 12 Mossy 18 inch with 'Black Magic' Benerk slugs. Might even add a four shot side saddle. Four in the mag and four on the side saddle ought to do it.
