.38 Special Revolver

Howdy

The days of used Smiths going for $200 - $250 are long gone in these parts. Most I am seeing these days are up in the $500 - $600 range. Sometimes I see one for less, but I have so many K frames that I'm trying to cut down on how many I buy these days.

If you want a shiny new looking gun, yeah, $200 ain't gonna do it. Not $250 either.

Don't mind a lot of character on your shooter? I bet I could find one for $300, maybe $250 with some looking.

This was $205 from a local show about 3 years ago. It's a 357 instead of a 38 but you could shoot 38s in it.

This was $165 about 3 years ago. I added the ivory.

I bet I could still find one for $250 or so if I put my mind to it. But I have too many as it is.

Saxon Pig beat me to the punch in posting a couple of Colts.

It seems that the older Colts aren't going up in price nearly as quickly as the S&Ws. I've picked up three in the last couple of years (.38 Special Official Police, .32-20 Police Positive Special, and .32 New Police (.32 S&W Long) Police Positive, all for well under $400 each.

The problem with the older Colts, though, is that replacement combat-style rubber grips are getting to be quite hard to find and, if something goes wrong with with a Colt, finding parts and someone to fix it can be quite daunting.

Bud's had Model 10s imported from New Zealand a year or two ago in the $250 to $275 range. I got a three inch barreled revolver. Pretty good shooter.
