The .357 Platform is an ideal revolver to own.
The ,357 mags give youthe versitke option of uding .38 specials in. A huge array of .38 Specials nake guns like this priceless as a cornerstone of a shooters battery!
for HD use ad general versatility abd use as a Tril Gun. I chose a New Model Vaquero with a 4 5/8" bbl . Tjis revolver pairs up hreat with my other .38 Specials (a Cobra .38 Derringer, a Model 36 Cgief's Special, and a Model 10 HB 4" revolver) ammo versitality is wonderfull and having a "common" caliber of proven preformance is a boonto own! Thw ,powerfull and awsomw .357 Mag is without question
I bought the Vaquero new but had issues right away with intermittent firing problems, Sent it off to Ruger and within 5 weeks got a completelly rebuilt and "tuned" revolver back! They even filed the sights to zero. Yea the 5 week turnaround was a little long but the work was impeccable! all factory expert work done!
No problems anymore.
I was weined on S/A revolvers and found the Vaquero automatic to operate with my trained hands! Being so familliar with! there is no reason for a shooter to feel ndergunned with a 6 shot S/A ib a gunfight,I rmember reading Guns amd ammo that the averge gunfight took 3.5 rounds to settle, so you don;t need worry about slow reloads, How they figgured 3.5 rounds> I dunno. Just a balpark figure averaged from historical events I guess.
The ..357 cartrige is a proven fightstopper with power to spare! The fine .38 Special is a;sp a proven tool with many years of Law Enforcement use. THe .38 Special has a very broad range of bullets and powder charges for use in differ ent situations from Target work to self Defense use. An extremelly versitile caliber!
The interchangeability of .38 specials in .357 revolvers make the Magnum a very versitile and usefull plarform to around.

Not a fan of the .357 in single actions

Love them in double action, but the single action seems to beg for a much heavier bullet.

If limited in the number of pistols you can have available the 357 revolver is not a bad choice. I'm just not as enthusiastic about it.

Couldn't agree more.

.357 Magnums? Yeah I have a few:

S&W Model 28-2 .357 Magnum

S&W Model 66-2 .357 Magnum

S&W Model 27-2 .357 Magnum

Oh, and just .38 Special by itself is pretty nice too.

S&W Model 36 .38 Special

And while I don't own this one any longer, why not let it join the photo party

Colt Cobra .38 Special

In Warm Weather I normally carry a 38/357 revolver. I normally carry a couple shotshells in the revolver or in a speed strip in my pocket for snakes. I have not swapped over to my 310 Night Guard so far this Fall. Still carrying my 3 Inch 66-2 every day. It is just hard to beat as an all round carry revolver.

I shoot either Defensive Pistol, or Reactive Steel Challenge every month, Plus and ICORE Match. I probably average 300 - 400 rounds a month of 158 Round Nose 38 Special through either my 686 or 64. And some months I will shoot my 2" Model 15 in Snub Division.

A 38/357 is just plain fun to shoot, and cheap to reload for.
Whats Not To Love :)

I absolutely love my Ruger GP100. I can shoot it fast and accurately. I don't even like to shoot 38 Special through it!

I started shooting center fire handguns in 1973 with a 357 Ruger Blackhawk . I also started hand loading at the same time learning what and how versital the cartridge can be. I've never been without one since my first one and love them short and long barrel both. It's also a great cartridge in a small light weight lever action carbine.

I love my LCR, SP101 and GP100, I just seem to shoot wheel guns better than I do semi-autos. I'm kinda afraid to buy a S&W for fear of it turning into many more!

I took the liberty of running the O/P original post through as spell check and here is what I came up with. Spell check did suggest some minor changes, but I don’t believe I changed the general idea of the post.

It's so true... I could never live without at least one.

They're easy-peasy reloads too.

Seems to me, if anyone really likes handguns in general, they've gotta have at least one.
