.38 special 158gr. +p lswc-hp question?

AH, PARTICULARS

WhatsaSAAMI?

Okay, seriously, based on YOUR SPECIFIC GUN, between 920-1000+fps.
Your results WILL vary, based on your specific gun (bore size, shape, and friction coefficient, chamber dimensions and alignment, cylinder gap and symmetry, test environment, and some other stuff).

Don't assume anything; it leads to blown primers.

If you SCREW SAAMI, you get more (maybe MUCH more -- than you expected LOL).
Anyone else here remember Petty's 38 110g Cor-Bon pressure test?

What increased velocity can be expected with a 4" or 6" barrel with the158gr. LSWC-HP+P ? (assuming that both guns have identical specs except for the barrel length) Would the LSWHP still be as effective at higher velocities, or would it over expand and loose bullet weight? At what velocity is a jacketed bullet necessary ?

THE CORBON 38-158SWC WAS DISCONTINUED

A FEW YEARS AGO FOR A WEIRD REASON, WE LOST THE MANUFACTURER OF THE BULLET WE WERE USING. NO BIG DEAL HUH? WELL, WE TESTED A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT 158SWC SWAGED BULLETS AND NOT A ONE WOULD DO WHAT THE PREVIOUS ONE DID. SO, IT JUST SORTA DISAPPEARED FROM THE PRODUCT LINE. I TOOK HOME THE LAST BATCH LEFT TO SHOOT UP IN MY COLT SAA 38 WHERE THEY ARE TACKDRIVERS OUT TO 100 YARDS. I'M DOWN TO TWO BOXES LEFT SO I GUESS ONE OF THESE DAYS IT'S BACK TO THE OL' AMMOMASTER FOR SOME 38-158SWC SHOOTIN' AMMO.
THE LOAD ALSO HAD A FAIRLY HIGH "SCRAP RATE" AS IT WERE. THOSE DAMN BULLETS DID NOT FEED WELL THROUGH OUR AUTOMATIC MACHINERY. THERE WERE ALSO TONS OF SECONDS FOR Y E S T TO SHOOT UP IN THE COLT'S SIXGUN.
I ALSO HAD A FELLOW I KNOW AT A LARGE U S REVOLVER COMPANY TELL ME THAT CORBON'S 38-158SWC+P+ WAS THE ONLY 38 LOAD THEY TESTED THAT DID NOT JUMP ITS' CRIMP IN THEIR LIGHTWEIGHT TITANIUM PISTOLS. HE ALSO TOLD ME IT WAS ONE NASTY S O B TO SHOOT IN THOSE 38'S.
FOR THOSE WHO CAME IN LATER TO THE GAME WE LOADED THIS AT 1050FPS FROM A 4" 38 BARREL. IT WOULD HIT 950 OUT OF MOST 2" REVOLVERS. IT WAS A WHOMPER OF A 38SPECIAL LOAD, I'LL TELL YOU.

EDITED FER SPELIN AIRES...

Terry, you oughta bring it back, or whip up something similar. Geez, it's a low-tech load, you can get molds somewhere? Seriously. Even if it costs more.

Especially with revolver ammo, I think y'all might be overestimating how "price sensitive" buyers are. We'll pay good money for small amounts of "duty ammo" 'cuz we don't practice with it more than needed to sort out where it's printing on paper.

Seems to me the easy way to make LSWC-HP's (I've done with with .45ACP SWC's before) is to mount a drill bit in your brass trimmer and turn them into HP's post manufactur.

Not sure it that works as well as cast HP's or not.. Seems to me that casting somethine with a HP would be a bit of a pain.

Keep an eye on the upcomeing issues of Handguns Magazine.

Gezze, think I'm going to loose some friends when this one comes out :p
