.357 snap caps in a .38 spcl?

Gunners,

Will Armsport snap caps for a .357 magnum fit in a .38 spcl cylinder?

I would think they should, since snap caps have no bullet and the .357 snap cap should work perfectly in a .38. and I can't see why the manufacturer would make the snap cap itself any longer, since it will never be a "magnum" snap cap . . . or will it snap more violently?!?!?

But I don't have a .38 to try them in.

What say Ye?

As long as the bullet end of the snap cap doesn't protrude from the cylinder it shouldn't be a problem seeing as they're the same diameter

It seems silly to either manufacture or purchase snap caps with the dimensions of a .357 when a .38 will fit. It sounds like you already have the snap caps. Measure them and find out.

Ya know I think the 38 sable caps are actually about $5 cheaper. Idk for sure but the 357 was $20 and I swear last time I saw the 38 it was not that much..

AZOOMS tend to last longer without breaking like the Armsport ones; those rims tend to break easily after just a little bit. Their shotgun ones are horrendously crappy

. . or will it snap more violently?!?!?

What do you mean by snap more violently? They don't snap, or do anything other than absorb the firing pin impact, and allow for loading and unloading practice.

Ok, that was a bit silly. I guess the only reason to have a 357 snap-cap is to train someone on the differences between the two cartridges. One gun can fire both, the other cannot and so forth.

Today I removed 5 .357 snap caps from my SP101 at the range. They looked short enough to chamber in a .38 special too, but now it looks like I may need to measure if I think about it.

They'll continue to make 357 snap caps because...

There's too many beginners or inexperienced shooters who won't make the connection between 38 Special and 357 Magnum. If the gun is stamped 357 Magnum, then that's what it takes. And after all, .38 is a bigger number than .357 on paper, or so it seems.

I've educated a few beginners. They're usually disappointed or confused about cartridge naming conventions but happy that something lighter can be shot out of a 357 Magnum.

So the .38 and .357 snap caps are two different packages for the same product? I can see how that would reduce confusion for beginners.

So why make snap caps in both 38 and .357?

Well practice ejecting and reloading with speed loaders, moon clips and speed strips is one useful reason. Given the different cartridge lengths practice would help for a fumble free reload with the longer 357.

Sure, it's what I use in my Trooper. The package they came in said .38/.357. I don't see why length is even mentioned.
