.357 Sig or 5.7x28mm for self defense?

.357 Sig in a Sig. My next best bet is a .38 Super, with very similar performance.
I favor the single stack 239 and the Colt light weight commander. You get 9mm +p+ performance without the drama.

In Mexico the average person can only very little, Otherwise it takes a strong Political or Gang support,In regard to what type of firearms are permitted,
Title II, Chapter I, Article 9 of the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives states:

(translated) It may be kept or carried, under the terms and limitations established by this law, weapons of the following characteristics:[26]
Semi-automatic handguns of caliber no greater than .380 (9mm Browning, 9mm Corto, 9mm Kurz, 9mm Short, and 9×17mm). Left excepted are calibers .38 Super and .38 commander, and also calibers 9mm. [Such as] Mauser, Luger, etc., as well as similar models of the same caliber of the excepted, from other brands.
Revolvers of calibers no greater than .38 Special, left excepted is caliber .357 magnum.
Land tenure owners, common land owners and farmworkers outside urban zones, may keep and carry, upon registration, one weapon of those already mentioned, or a .22 caliber rifle, or a shotgun of any caliber, except those of a barrel length shorter than 25 inches (635mm) and of caliber greater than 12-gauge (.729" or 18.5 MM).

Glock 32 or Sig Sauer P226 for Self Defense?

In the DCAM the Glock's value is of $ 630 USD and Sig Sauer's values costs is of $ 700 USD

Honestly I don't trust much in the safe of the Glock. But i feel tired for carry a "full metal pistol" all day.

Indeed civilians are not as limited by the LFAFyE

It is relatively easy to buy a gun legally in México

One advantage is that as the law is very poorly made and there are several loopholes that benefit the civilian population:D

Note

Note....about the 5.7x28
It is an expensive cartridge to get into with SS197SR regularly running $.60/round. it's also non-reloadable.
Not true. I have been reloading the 5.7 cartridge for a number of years. Published data is readily available.

Either round is perfectly sufficient (or insufficient, depending on your viewpoint of handguns) for self defense. With that being said it boils down to availability and personal preference.

If they are equally available then choose the gun you shoot the best/like the most.

Of the two I would go with 357 sig. I carried a P229 in 357 sig for twelve years and it was great but I will say that our Sigs got really beat up by that round. My off duty Glock 33 did not get beat up. Disclaimer we never replaced the RSA on the Sigs. I know the FAMS are getting 30,000 and over on their Sigs in 357.

My vote also goes to the .357SIG. The SIG P229 is a compact version of the 226, and may work better for you if you intend to carry frequently. It is a LOUD round. If that doesn't bother you, and you are looking at the FiveseveN, you may also want to look at the 22TCM. It comes on a 1911 frame, and the ballistics are better than the FiveseveN. It's a hoot to shoot and has very little felt recoil.

I am sure that it is a hoot to shoot. Better ballistics? Maybe. Maybe not. which depends on what ammo that one is shooting from the FiveSeven.
The rounds that I carry when I opt for the 5.7 are a 40 grain bullet chrono'd at over 2000 fps. The .22 TCM lists a 40 grain bullet at 1850 fps.

However, it's currently a proprietary round supported by only a single company, Armscor, which markets products under the Rock Island Armory moniker in the USA.

I have no idea (nor any way to find out) whether Armscor products are lawfully available in Mexico, and it's debatable whether the .22 TCM round will have long-term staying power. 5.7x28 is also primarily supported by one company, but the round has been on the market much longer, and FNH has a far stronger worldwide presence than Armscor.

Check out if you can get hands on a Norinco DA P762. It's a P226 clone in 7.62x25, which is basically better than either 5.7x28 or .357SIG, and way cheaper than either. Banned from import in the US, but Mexico probably doesn't have our hang ups with the Chinese.

OP already stated 7.62x25 is too expensive where he lives. Also, I wouldn't call 7.62x25 'better' than .357 sig.

You can get a .355 caliber 115 grain bullet, with a higher sectional density than the 85 grain projectiles in the 7.62x25, to roughly the same velocity, with the .357 sig cartridge.

I thank you all for your comments and advices, I think I'll buy the Sig Sauer P226 (.357 Sig), this Thursday i'm going to buy the Sig:).

PD: Sorry for my English

Between the two the .357 SIG is the better "all around" round. Think of the 5.7 as more of a specialized round. Fun but not up to the .357 SIG.
