357 Ruger Security Six

I have a 4" Security Six with Hogue grips. I like it every bit as much as my S & W model 66. I saw one in a local gun shop the other day priced at over $500.
 
I have a pair of Service Sixes - 3" and 4" and they are great! They seem to have become ever more popular the last several years, coincidently with the discontinuation of the short lug GP100's (which are even rarer on the used market it seems).

Very nice revolver. I prefer a single action but have owned a single six and it was a solid accurate revolver with a very nice trigger,traded it for a blackhawk. But apples to apples you cant go wrong
 
Ruger Security sixes are great revolvers, I have had one since 1978 or so and it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I hope you enjoy it over the years as I have enjoyed mine.
 
There is a special place in Ruger Heaven for you for rescuing this one from the smelter. And a special place in Ruger Hell that you rescued your friend from.

Hey thanx for the comments guys. i went shooting with it the weekend and i do LOVE it. The trigger is still smooth and packs a great punch. Even shot it without ear protection just to hear the thunder......two days later and the "zwing" is still in my ears. Would love to change the grip though, its still the origanal thin wood grip.
 
I bought a N.I.B Ruger Security Six with a six inch barrel for $189.00. I shot it today and it shoots as well as when I took it home in 1975. I like the revolver a lot and will likely leave it to my son when I take my dirt nap.

I repeated because you are probably hard of hearing.

You will recover soon, but some of your hearing is permanently lost. You will never recover all of it. The hairs inside your cochlea are damaged.

I am not taking you to task for kicks, but for your good and for the good of anyone reading this thread.

Thunder is cool, but not worth what it costs.

Have a 4 in ss new in 1976 .It is the only pistol i will never sell .Survived one divorce ,two home breakins ,2 great job losses ,and major health issues. DID I SAY THE BEST PISTOL I HAVE EVER OWNED FOR THE MONEY SPENT.
 
The first handgun I bought was a 4" SS Security Six. That was in 1976. I had really wanted a S&W M-66 but could neither find nor afford one. So, I "settled" for the Ruger. I still have it and it has had thousands of rounds through it that ranged from puny .38 target ammo to heavy .357 handloads. It has always been accurate and reliable. The action has gotten better and better over the years. The modular construction that allows it to be easily stripped down for cleaning and solid frame make for a revolver that was more advanced than the comparable S&W or Colt. It is the one I would keep if I could only have one handgun...You had some unbelievable luck with that. I would have had to pay that person something for it or given them a gift...If nothing else, I would give them the $50 or whatever the buy back program was paying.
