I checked the laws for OK. Here is a copy/paste of what I think are especially germane.
I am not a lawyer or expert in this matter, and I advise you to check with a NRA representative, or an instructor, or the state atty general office.
From the OK statutes that I can determine are germane. There may be others.

Minimum age to Purchase/Possess
It is a misdemeanor for a child (under age 18) to possess any firearm except a rifle or shotgun used for participation in hunting animals, hunter safety classes, target shooting, skeet, trap or other recognized sporting event (provided the child is not otherwise prohibited from possessing firearms). Okla. Stat. tit. 21, § 1273 (C), (E), § 1283(D).
In addition, under section 1271.1(A), whenever a person under age 18 is detained or arrested by a law enforcement officer and is carrying any firearm prohibited by section 1272, the firearm may be confiscated and forfeited to the State of Oklahoma.
Oklahoma prohibits any person from selling or giving to a child under age 18 any firearm, provided that “the provisions of this section shall not prohibit a parent from giving his or her child a rifle or shotgun for participation in hunting animals or fowl, hunter safety classes, target shooting, skeet, trap or other recognized sporting events...” Section 1273(A), (E). For additional information, see the Oklahoma Private/Secondary Sales section.
Child Access prevention.
Oklahoma Stat. tit. 21, § 1273(B), states that:
It shall be unlawful for any parent or guardian to intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly permit his or her child to possess any [firearm]…if such parent is aware of a substantial risk that the child will use the weapon to commit a criminal offense or if the child has either been adjudicated a delinquent or has been convicted as an adult for any criminal offense.
A child is defined as a person under 18 years of age. Section 1273(E).
Under Tit. 21, § 858, any parent or guardian of a child under age 18 whose child commits the crime of possession of a firearm on school property may be fined an administrative penalty not to exceed $200, or ordered to perform up to 40 hours of community service, or incur both the fine and community service.
Private/Secondary Sales
Private firearms transfers (i.e., transfers by non-firearms dealers) are not subject to a background check requirement in Oklahoma, although federal and state purchaser prohibitions still apply. See the Oklahoma Background Checks section.
Oklahoma prohibits any person from selling to or giving a child (under 18 years of age) any firearm, provided that “the provisions of this section shall not prohibit a parent from giving his or her child a rifle or shotgun for participation in hunting animals or fowl, hunter safety classes, target shooting, skeet, trap or other recognized sporting events...” Okla. Stat. tit. 21. § 1273(A), (E). Any person who violates the provisions under section 1273 prohibiting the possession of firearms by minors shall be liable for civil damages for injury or death to any person and for any property damage resulting from the discharge of a firearm. Section 1273(D).
Similarly, no person may knowingly transmit, transfer, sell, lend or furnish any firearm to a person who is under an adjudication of “mental incompetency,” or to a person who is “mentally deficient or of unsound mind.” Section 1289.10.
END OK quoted laws
Notice that the only firearms mentioned that a minor may possess are rifles and shotguns. HANDGUNS ARE NOT MENTIONED AS PERMISSIBLE.
While I am here, I want to post some safety rules that I got from Sarge's site, thesixgunjournal.com
SAFETY FIRST, LAST and ALWAYS.
" THE FOUR RULES "
· Rule 1: All Guns are always loaded
· Rule 2: Never let the Muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy.
· Rule 3: Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
· Rule 4: Be sure of your target and what is behind it.
And please - store all weapons, especially LOADED ones, up and out of the reach of children, or anyone who cannot be trusted to handle them responsibly. Our purpose here is to promote the lawful, safe and responsible use of firearms. The future of our sport, our nation and our freedom is in your hands. Welcome aboard- and we hope you will enjoy it here! email Steve at

It appears to me that you will not be legally able to possess a handgun under OK law until you are 18.
Again, I want to stress that I am not an expert in this, and especially under OK law, but be wise, and make sure whatever you do that it is legal. Otherwise you will cause your parents, and yourself much legal trouble. Make sure that your Dad is well informed, and knows the laws. Do nothing behind his back, not that you would, but be sure he knows what you are doing and approves of it before you do it.
If anyone here knows something regarding OK or federal laws that are germane please post them.
I do not want to give false information, and there are laws that might be hidden under a rock, and come out to bite like a snake.
