357 magnum testing question

I'm glad you pulled the rest. I worked up a Bullseye .357 load with 158 gr xtp's and got my only sticky extraction in a revolver to date. I will not mess around with Bullseye again. Small charges with low end loads is what Bullseye is good for IMHO and I don't care one iota about speed with it.

I really like Unique for mid-power .357 Mag loads. 2400 is good too.

I'll agree to pile on about the powder choice. Love Bullseye for light target loads and lead, but with Bullseye, a very small amount can make a very large difference, and its not very consistant on the upper edge. Almost anything slower will give you higher velocities at lower pressures. Unique would be an excellent choice to accomplish this.

Lots of good info but I will add my own experience.
I had this same issue one time and found that on damp or real humid days some tumbling media would pack in the bottom of the case.
Through the action of re-loading the media would un-pack and I was dumping a charge on top of tis media. This decreased the case volume and cause the peek PSI to rise to fast resulting in what you described.
Just a thought.
