.357 Magnum rifle question

How about the Speer 180 gr flat point for the 35 Rem? I load this in a 10" T/C in 357 Max and it is awesome. I have an old Speer loading manual that has loads for this combination in a 357 mag for single loading in a Marlin lever gun. When I started looking for a Contender I was initially looking for a 357 Mag to shoot the above load when my buddy found a brand new Max barrel in the back of the shop where he works. An H&R Topper in a 357 magnum might surpass my 10" Maximum with the same bullet, nothing to sneeze at!

Don't underestimate the power of a 30-30 though, I still feel it is in a different class than the 357 out of a rifle, much higher sectional densities for the bullets in .30 cal. Allot of it's I feel limitations are due to the gun's it's fired from than the caliber itself. Either in the hands of a good hunter/marksman will do the job.

I use a 180 hardcast FP bullet in my Marlin 1894 and push it to 1600 fps with a stout charge of L'il Gun. It seems to punch through anything I shoot with it, leaves a nice hole all the way through. I'd certainly use it on our smallish whitetails in the thick woods, but the opportunity hasn't presented itself.
