I've toyed with the idea of rechambering my Marlin for 357 Maximum. I've talked with a few 'smiths that thought it could be done without many problems. If the rifle could still shoot Magnums and Specials w/o any problems, heck, I may take the plunge. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my rifle in Magnum and I don't feel undergunned in the areas I hunt with the Beartooth loads (or would that be Bearteeth?). I'd just like to try something a little different.

I had pretty good luck with WW296 and 158 JHP's, starting with around max loads as the book recommends (don't remember right now how much powder I used). Accuracy was good for both, the Marlin and my Dan Wesson, but slightly better with the scoped Dan.

Ron L,
I am no gunsmith but don't think rechambering a Marlin M94 will work. The main reason is Marlin's M94 is a short action. In a Win M94, made from the ground up for .30-30 length cases, it would probably work. Something else to consider is pressures and I believe the .357 Max operated at higher pressures than the .357 Mag.

What probably would work, also, is to put a M94 Marlin barrel on their M336 action after rechambering it.
