When all of the good Pythons are bought up,,,
Collectors will latch onto the Troopers.

It's already happening. There's a good market out there for nice Troopers. I think the book is a little low on Trooper values. I'd bet that revolver would sell for about $600, maybe more. It will never be worth as much as a comparable Python, but it has more room for appreciation than do Pythons, in my opinion.

Hiya Skans,,,

The book is the 2010 version,,,
So I do expect the value has appreciated a bit.

Two years ago when I paid $750.00 for my pristine .22 version,,,
Everyone told me I was crazy for paying that much.

I turned down an $850.00 offer for it just 3 months ago.

That $600.00 estimate of yours isn't out of line,,,
gunbroker has several with $600.00 or more bids right now.

Its a nice gun / and its good to hear you'll keep it in the family ...if it were mine, for insurance purposes, I'd value it at around $ 750 for replacement on my homeowners insurance.

a 6" barrel is longer than I would want to carry for CCW ...where a 4" is just about right / and a snubbie or 2" is a little too short for me personally. I like a 6" barrel in a revolver ...as a shooter / or maybe carrying it in a bigger holster as an open carry - out in the woods or something.../ but just a little too much to be sticking in a holster inside your belt line for me anyway ...and I have to raise my elbow higher than I'd like, in order to draw a 6" over a 4".

A word of caution: do not dry fire that revolver without snap caps. The Trooper Mk. III, while a fine gun, is somewhat prone to breakage of the firing pin if dry fired (pulling the trigger without anything in the chambers). To make matters worse, if the firing pin is broken the gun must be sent back to the Colt factory as they are the only ones with the proper tools to replace it.

If you must dry fire the gun, special dummy cartridges called snap caps are available from companies like A-Zoom which allow dry firing without the risk of damage to the firing pin. Snap caps are quite inexpensive and available from several online retailers like Midway or Brownells as well as most decent gun shops.

Zaptear: Do you own your own rig, or do you drive the company vehicle? Do you have a overnight bag that you carry in the rig?

Check your company policy, too. You may have to choose which is more important....your job or your safety.

That's a nice gun! ...but find a 3" or 4" for concealed carry. Lots of used S&W K-frames out there for less than $300, and a few Ruger Security Sixes, Service Sixes, and Speed Sixes for about the same.

Also (if it matters to you) if you qualify in Texas with a revolver, your permit is only good for carrying a revolver. If you qualify with a semiautomatic, you can carry a revolver or a semi.

Texas law allows certain businesses to still prohibit their employees from having weapons in company parking lots. Mainly the oil, gas & petrochemical businesses.

You also have to keep in mind that what you are allowed as an employee to a company differs from you are allowed as a contractor to the company. The type of badge you are issued makes a big difference to what the company restrictions that apply to you.

No I'm a company driver I'd like to have it for ongoing like down to Laredo or eagle pass
Mexican border
I may put it in my day bag. But I do support my wife and three children so I would hate to lose my job over something like that and the first rule on the company policy is no fire arms vehicle

The Trooper and Anaconda are more Smith-like in the aspect of having a smooth double action trigger due to their more modern construction.

Never carry an heirloom concealed. if you have to use it you may never get it back. If you do get it back it will not be returned in the condition that it left.

Sadly I report this from experience.

Zaptear, I know this is not part of the question, but you did state that you were going to get you license to carry. A thing you should know is that if you take your class with a revolver you will only be allowed to carry conceal a revolver. If you do it with a semi-auto handgun you can conceal carry whatever you desire. There is a firing range I am a member of there in New Braunfels. It is Dietz rifle and gun range off of highway 46. Maybe we will run into each other. Welcome to Texas.

I'd treat that beauty more as a family heirloom than a utility gun. Maybe shoot it on special ocassions, but it's too special to be a workhorse at this point.
