.357 for Home Defense?

I'm gonna chime in here and say that I have thought of the hearing protection bit before. I guess everyone needs to make a personal decision based on their viewpoints: age, ear issues, genetic factors, and so-on can all be weighing measures.

I don't shoot any weapons without earplugs and ear muffs in conjunction. That being said I wouldn't use earplugs or earmuffs during a home invasion. I'm not gonna "want" that split-second back because 1)I thought about whether to get the muffs2)decided to go ahead and do it3)fumbled for them due to murphys law4)etc. Absolutely no chance...not only that unless you wear muffs all the time you're not going to be used to the different sound proportions. I also will want to have all my hearing for the occaison(no pun intended). Nope, that one emergency situation I use no muffs and suffer the fate and or pay the price with that decision and that is my choice. Maybe I will reconsider when planning for the 2nd home invasion I hope never happens like the first. As for a 357 for HD that is my primary choice and I don't see that changing. I keep two 357 revolvers at the ready. Having some things in place such as a nearby phone, animals, alarms, and so-forth is very important. I have an alarm, leave the door locked to the bedroom(easy to unlock with your hand), have the phone on the bedstand, etc.

all the best

I did also mean to mention that -again being a personal comfort or discomfort depending on the person- I wouldn't feel comfortable letting the law know I had earmuffs on when I shot the drunk, 17yr old kid trying to rob my house while my children slept(COMPLETELY RANDOM EXAMPLE), but I guess I am saying is that I would feel bad enough as it is. I don't need any second guessing, more instances to dexplain(defend) myself, or any feelings of confused guilt. I could see that being an issue for a prosecutor too...it is unorthodox and against the norm....sortof like that AZ businessman who just offed himself after trial: he raised redflags by exiting his mansion during the fire while wearing his scubagear. This caused eyebrows to be raised. sometimes that big snowball starts off as an innocent, cute snowflake.

PS- hunkering down isn't a bad thing in my book. A great offense can come from a great defense. Ande yes, as pointed out, the kids might have to be grabbed as they are a priority to say the least.

all the best
