.32 H&R Magnum

BillCA, all points very well put. I happen to like the BH grip, but that's just me and it did take a little adjustment of my mindset, never having had that grip, but also to me it's visually slicker-than-___ piece--that "fondle-abilty" factor :) . I think I equally like the "regular" (long) grip in terms of feel. Unlike larger calibers, the choice isn't one particularly of "controllability," as it is "how it feels in your hand?"--your enjoyment. The SW 432PD is a slick piece. I've noticed the 332 (?) - which weighs next to nothin and I think differentiates as titanium vs the 432's aluminum/alloy, is nice but in this format doesn't justify the whopping $200 difference. The extra weight of the 432 is actually nice/giving it a more subtantial feel--and to the minor degree controllability is a factor with any .32M--I would think less felt-kick/muzzle flip (than the tit) by having a bit of extra weight in these extremely short-barrel'd formats.

gak,

Actually, Ruger did make a Bisley in .32 H&R. It was also available in .22 LR. It had the windage only dovetail rear sight similar to the old single six. Ross Seyfried and Brian Pearce have mentioned it in some articles. Really a sweet looking and handling revolver. A 6.5" barrel I think. I've seen a few that had the "Bowen" treatment with the banded front sight. If I can scrounge up a photo I'll post it.

I know you've seen the Shootist edition of the 4 5/8" stainless .22 LR Bisley (limited to the 52 orginial "Shootists"). It would sell like hotcakes, but Ruger doesn't seem to be interested in producing it again.

Jim Taylor (a fine fellow, btw) insists on posting photos of it over at Sixgunner.com to make Ruger lovers drool :)

RE: S&W's. I am not a big fan of non-steel cylinders, but that's me. The little 432's are very nice and plenty light for most carry situations.

Best,
JB

Heritage

I noticed in one of this month's gun mags that Heritage has just intro'd an "affordable" SA in .32 Mag. Not the most charming looking thing IMO when comparing to the Ruger (but to be fair have not seen it in person), but at $269 or such hard to beat if have to have a new SA on a budget--but have to give them extra credit for actually being in production, unlike Rugers!

GAK and BillCA,
Your points are well taken.
However, methinks my next firearm purchase is going to be a magnum of the forty-four variety. ;)

Denfoote, good choice! I have one of those too and highly recommend :) they all have their purpose from .32 to .44!

Hey!!
I have to!!
A friend gave me a box of .44mag ammo and I don't, as yet, have a gun to shoot them out of!! :D
I think I'll look for a used M29 to go with my M28-2!!!
Another reason is I'm quiting smoking and part of my incentive is that I'm using the money that I would spend on cigs to save for a new gun!!

Taurus finally posted pics of its new lever action .32M (actually pics of the .22LR equivalent I gather, so they still haven't come up with its own pic!) --pretty cute, complete with saddle ring, 12 shot. Their specs are mixed up. The title says lever action, the specs say pump, but it supposedly is definitely a lever. The design sorta looks like a cross between a 92 Win and the 62. Price is right, in mid $300s.

Keep the threads and posts going folks!...more .32s showing up now than ever it seems--esp in the rifle world, despite Ruger's dropping of its Single Six SA.

For that kind of a price, I probably wouldn't be able to resist trying one.

If a gun maker wants me to buy something, the best strategy is to make it in .32 Magnum, .41 Magnum or .44 Special!

My local range/store has a S&W .32 H&R, cool little wheel gun. My understanding is that it has the recoil of a .22 but the balistics of a .38 and the S&W revolver carries one extra round, 6 instead of 5 like in a .38.
Sounds like a pretty good investment.

Here's a shot of the S&W M432 I just picked up today. Hopefully I can get out to the range tomorrow and provide a range report on how it shoots.

Interesting - I just noticed the serial number starts with the letters CHL. I wonder how much coincidence there is in that? :D

Kymasabe, yes the SW's a nice gun. I'd say it's a stretch to say "same recoil as .22" especially in the lightweight/short barreled DA formats. As you'd expect -- "doing the math" is pretty well verified out in the field as well -- its recoil and report are somewhere pretty close to the middle between a .22 Mag and .38, where the caliber resides. However the ballistics are closer to a "standard" .38 (non +P) and yes all guns I have seen permit a full 6 rounds in formats allowing only 5 in the .38 + range.

Darn, my 431 is a "CHR". I'd say the recoil is enough to be interesting but never painful. I really like shooting it. I enjoy praticing with it one handed, two handed, double action, single action. Did I mention I really like this gun.
