308 or 30-06?

People like to say the .308 is almost as good as the 30-06 and they are right. Almost. I load the 30-06 and it will outperform the .308 in every bullet weight from 150gr. up. People say they like the short action better. A half inch difference in how far you have to cycle the bolt back. Really? That actually matters to someone? Come on man. The 30-06 is better than the .308 all day every day. Dont even get me started on accuracy. Like I said I reload. I know how to make a round accurate.

Well short action also accounts for less weight, more ammo. You piece together a MTU build or something like it and you will want to find ways to sacrifice any weight here and there. I agree though 30-06 is in every way superior to the .308 as it should be it has more powder capacity for a caliber that really doesn't hit stride till you get to the heavier bullets.

Regardless a deer isn't going to know the difference between the two.

Why, the 30-06 of course. It won TWO World Wars... the .308 only kinda sorta helped a little with the last quarter of WWII. LOL

Seriously... whichever one you've already got, so you can feed them all outta one trough.

With the .308 you will have the advantage of being able to practice with Surplus ammo. Unless you plan to hunt Moose or something I would go with the .308
