A couple years back I was in the same position as you. A 7mm or 300? I chose the 300Win Mag in a Model 70 classic super grade and am very glad I did. With the lighter 150 and 165gr bullets you can take deer out to your maximum effective range with power to spare, if that is or your thing or up close. My only advice would be to use premium bullets in all weight bullets due to high velocities, up close some of those bullets that do a dandy job at 200 yards blow up at 50. If you want to go after the bigger critters I would imagine that the 7mm would do it but the 300 would do it better and has the option of bullets of heavier weight for more insurance. In my opinion the 300 is a far superior rifle and will do everything the 7mm can do but better. As far as recoil, I believe people make way more of a deal out of it than is necessary. The 300 is not bad at all, just shoot it more than once a year and you won't notice much any big difference in recoil over the 7mm.
