"Sent the rifle back in a new box"; does that mean there was also a new rifle in the box (trying to read between the lines)?
Forgive, No, the rifle they returned in the new box had the same serial number as the rifle I sent them. In the big inning they instructed me to take the rifle to their warranty shop. I did, I know him, I explained to him the chamber was too large in diameter and too long from the shoulder to the bolt face. He explained to me Winchester contacted him with the 'fix', he was instructed to hone, polish and or ream. And I had to ask how was the 'fix' going to reduce the size of the chamber?
Anyhow, he had the rifle for close to 2 months, I went by to check on it, He sent the rifle back to Winchester, I had to ask why. He said the chamber was too large and I had to ask when did the chamber become too large, was it after he honed the chamber, or after he polished the chamber or was it after he reamed the chamber? He said the chamber was too large when he started.
He never understood why I wanted a chamber to match my dies or Winchester dies that matched their chamber.
I dug the rifle out after about 5 years and started reloading for it, problem, the push feed would not push feed, the extractor would not jump the rim. I took the bolt apart, the rifle was not new, the bolt had not been cleaned.
