just wondering if $30 is average or too high for the cost of a gun transfer?
I recently purchased a gun online and thought it was a good deal till I found out the transfer fee :(

Cheers

depends on location. i use to pay 50 all day because im in the city. i once ordered another gun and when i went to pick it up, they jacked up the fee to 75$ a week back. i had to pay it. never will go there again. now im gonna pick up another gun but this time its a little outside the city and thats gonna be for 35$ fee.

Prices vary. One pawn shop near where I lived in GA would do them free for regular customers. My normal LGS charged $30.

Where I live now, in MO, the LGS charges $35.

If I wanted to put in the effort, I would use the "find a local FFL" function on gunbroker or gunsamerica and do some research on fees in my area. OP might want to try that.

Thanks...makes me feel better knowing I'm not getting ripped off lol, funny though I can't imagine the place I bought the gun from in the first place is probably not seeing $30 in profit ....price of the internet I guess.

South Carolina is my location!

It isn't unreasonable. A lot of kitchen table FFLs still do transfers for $20, but I've seen shops in the $30-40 range lately (although my local shop has done them for free for me... there's a benefit to being a good customer).

That's about average, the LGS I go to is $30.00 (or $20.00 for Active/Retired Military, LEOs or Fire/EMS). Another less than 2 miles away is $50.00.

$30 is about a middle of the road average price.

Sometimes buying online turns out to not be any cheaper. You may get out of paying the tax (as long as you're not in one of those states where you still pay tax even on online purchases). But between shipping and transfer fees, it's probably not a huge savings. And with a local store, you get to check the gun out before buying. Also with a good store, if something goes wrong they will try to fix it.

So I'd only purchase online if the local shops are really bad or I want a specific model that they just don't have. Or if the gun is really expensive that the tax would be more than I want to pay.

Depends on the area. You wouldn't have to look real hard to get it done for less in this area, but $30 still in the range of reasonable, even here.

Agreed with most of the posts above; seems fairly average. Where I'm at there's a few places that charge less than $30, and a few that charge more than $30.

maznonno,

I am in SC too and I go to two FFL's for transfers one charges 15 and the other 20. HHB Guns is in Summerville SC (sales@hhbguns.com) , and Brett Parks FFL (Columbia Arms@ss.rr.com) is in Lexington SC. Both are great guys and super easy to do business with. If one of these guys are close to you give them a try.

The norm around here in central rural Oklahoma is,,,

...$25 to $35.

But the Evil Pawn Shop Guy only charges $20.

He likes to get you in the door,,,
It's his evil plan. ;)

Be lucky you aren't in San Francisco,,,

I am storing a few firearms for a friend in California,,,
He inherited them and is planning to take them home eventually.

He hit several gun stores in his area and they all wanted the same transfer fee,,,
$100.00 per rifle or handgun.

What a rip-off!

It will be cheaper for him to drive the round trip,,,
Than to ship and transfer all of the guns.

It ranges from $20 to $40 locally. The shop that charges $40 is substantially better about communication, can always be reached on the phone, and faxes their license to your online seller or out-of-state FFL usually within an hour.
