30-30 load

Not sure why the above post is labeled like it is; it was actually sent by condor bravo on my cell phone. Some sort of hang up there. But at any rate Vern I think you are in the clear as my above messsge intends to indicate. To start a new thread, go to the top of the thread list and click on or press New Thread and you're on your way.

Vernon he was referring to me. BTW welcome to the forums and hope you stick around.

Mikld no offense taken. most of the time you do not know the poster to know his circumstance for why he asked the question. I am very patient person but don't have enough time to find a load that my 30-30 likes that I'm going to use for much more then a farm gun. Furthermore if I had the time I would load for my 308 to try to find that "perfect load". I specified that accuracy did not mater as much, that did not mean that I did not care about accuracy. I was trying to find a around that someone has had good luck with in the past.

I reload to first make better ammo for guns like my 300 winmag that I know very well and refined my loads to the point that I am very satisfied with my results and groupings. second I load for economy and that I don't have to go to the store when I need ammo. to say that I rushing would not be correct.I Just want to utilize my time. But I must criticize you on your remark that most loaders are opened mined and particular. Im guessing your saying I'm not. I would say that asking the question would make me both opened mined and particular vs opening a manual and find just a load that I know would work.

Again no offense taken but you don't know anyone behind your computer screen and there circumstances.

.30-30

S-33; With your H335 and Hor. 150gr RN....Try 35.0 gr. for 2300FPS+/- in your '94. I've run a couple more gr. in my 336 [and] H&R .30-30 barrel, but your rifle will let you know what it likes best. The Hor. 150 RN is fairly stout, and I load it in my .308s and '-06s to 2650+/- and they work well on any deer and hogs up to 300lbs +/-, as well as in my .30-30s @ 2300-2400 FPS, and I can't tell any difference between them and the 170 FP @ 2239 avg. (Chrono.) [All shots strictly Broadside chest....Avoid any bones except ribs].
LEVERevolution works really well in the .30-30.

I guess there's some confusion here. The thread was hijacked and my post was meant for the original thread subject/author, then answered by the hijacker...

Vernon acknowledges that he was coattailing the thread since he didn't know how to start a new one. I think we can give him a break on that without calling him a hijacker.

I have never seen so meany people ask for load data. That is why they makes loading books. There books that show most accurate loads and hunting loads with different powders also a starting load and a max load. Not every gun will shoot the same load or bullet the same. I always start with the bullet that I want to use in that gun and work up an accurate load. I have 4 243 and they all take a different load the same for my 4 223.

Hornady reply

I did hear back from Hornady on the question of how they were achieving their stamped muzzle velocity on their Leverevolution factory ammo that their published load data did not support. Slightly vague response as expected (don't want you to be able to reproduce their factory load) but did get response giving some info. reply is as follows.

We use the Superformance (over the counter powder) as a base powder and add other powders and components to it to produce a large than standard volume of gas, with in SAAMI pressure specifications. The result is constant peak pressure, within safe limits, on the base of the bullet for the entire length of the barrel thus, higher-safe-velocity.

Basically the are gaining another 100fps with their mix. (secret recipe )

But their you go if anyone would like to experiment.

With Leverevolution powder I'm getting, out of a 20" microgroove barrel, 2275 ft/sec with a Lyman 311041 that drops wheel weight at 184 grains after the gas check is added, that was with 34.5 grains of leverevolution powder. Shoots 3" groups at 100 yards

I have a 154 grain bullet loaded with 39 grains (worked up from 34 grains) of leverevolution. These do not seem as accurate for me as the Lyman mold, but they are still minute of deer accurate at 100 yards @ 4.5" groups... I may back that load down a bit to see if the group tightens, as I like the terminal performance better than I do with the lyman bullet.

No pressure signs, absolutely no leading. The lube used is 1# beeswax, about 1/2 pound vaseline (just enough added to make it flow through the sizer and stay gooey) and a few tablespoons of Johnsons paste wax to leave the bore shiny.

Those are my present pet loads. For target for my kids I use 2400 powders loaded midrange from the reloading manual.

My apologies, but I've never heard any other way to describe a "hijacking"; a deliberate distraction of the original poster's topic/question, especially when the hijacker ansewered a post meant for the original poster with a defensive/argumentative answer.

No offence intended to the hijacker, but what's wrong with "how do I start a new thread?" Or looking at the top left of the sub forum for the "New Thread" button?
