30-30 is it legal?

30-30 good caliber

you don't know what your talking about i bet you never shot one. the catridge is a very good deer round i shot my first deer at 210 yrds and dropped a 120 pound doe if you were just joking then ok but if not i stand with my awnser which is true.

210 yards with a 30/30. You are either the best shot ever or very lucky. The 30/30 is a brush gun not a long range gun. I used to shoot everything from 100 yd to high power 1000 yard over those 20 plus years I have NEVER seen a 30/30 at any match.

Obsolete cartridge? ;-)

Here's a nice article by the ever-colorful Jeff Quinn on the .30-30. As far as the 210 yard shot being impossible, Quinn took his new son-in-law hunting for his first time using a .30-30 loaded with Barnes-X bullets. The kid took two deer using a single shot for each, at 180 yards, with both shots completing penetrating the animals.

Hey, the .30-30 is plenty enough punch for deer on beyond 200 yards. The bum rap comes from the crappy as-issue sights the Model 94s usually come with. Next, of course, is the "less than flat" trajectory for those who can't estimate range.

A shooter who's learned his rifle and the trajectory of the cartridge, and who has put decent sights on it, isn't gonna have any trouble on Bambi to 200 yards and more.

no joke 210 yard shot

i'm really not lying about the 210 yard shot it was my first deer ever, with open to sights no joke i target practise alot and use to trap shoot every week. It was a marlin 336w that took it down my parents were very proud of me too

I don't doubt you for a second. I harvested a doe at 120 yards with a Marlin 30/30 last year. She fell in place with almost no meat damage. The 30/30 is a terrific round, but then again I've never met a round I didn't like. Well, that's not true. My shoulder hates the 300 win mag and my blinking eyes tend to agree.

We shot deer regularly at over 220 up to 240 yards with a .30-30. Penetration was complete and one shot was an angled chest shot.

Coming in late on this, but regarding the .30-30's accuracy...

About 20 years ago I watched a guy at my club in Pennsylvania beat the living hell out of the 500 yard gong with a Remington 788 .30-30.

can't go wrong with a 30-30

I wish I had my witnesses here for this.

We had spent all day at the range, sighting in our rifles whe, i finally decided to break out the 336. With 170 grain silvertips we nailed a pie pan at 200 yds w 2.5" groupings. I couldn't believe it neither could the guys at the range.

all I have on it is a Tasco 4x28 with "pop-up" rings. To this day whenever I go out that gun goes with me, I almost feel bad when I go deer hunting and take my 30-06 or .243.

That is the most reliable gun in my case....I will never part ways with it.
