30-06 factory ammo recommendations please

I have had great luck with Remington CoreLokt in 30-06, 150gr. It gave me one inch groups at 100 yards through a Rem 700 and stopped deer very efficiently.

Years back I bought a 7mm and did a chamber spec check, got a safe length but longer than recommended for the bullet, ran powder and tests and got a good round.

Then I had a hunting trip and found I had not reloaded when I was low. No time to reload and get the gun checked outg, it, so I grabbed what I could find that was cheap (Federal Premium back then) , down to the range for the sight check and it was as accurate ad the hand loaded.

So, for as little as it got shot (anyone shoot a 7mm Mag recreational? - could not with the recoil absorbers but then..... ugh).

I just grabbed a couple of boxes of the Federal each year and life was good.

Work finally allowed me to get to the range today. Unfortunately it was 38 degrees and raining steadily so I spent no more time there than I had to. Crowded though. I waited half an hour unsuccessfully trying to get a 50yd lane for the first shots to make sure I was on paper. Finally I just took a 100yd lane and hoped the boresighting was good.

First shot 2 inches left of center and 10 in high. I cranked it way down and then spent the next few shots dialing it in. The pic below is the last 5 shots I used to get it it back up to shoot 2 inches high at 100 (ignore the one off the Shoot N C at 1 o'clock. It was from the initial sighting in before I slapped on a new Hi Vis target and shot for group). The two shots at 11 o'clock on the edge of the 9 ring are shots 1 and 2. I put on 4 clicks up and shot the remaining 3 shots.

Total of 13 shots including these last 5. About five minutes between each shot. Shot from a bench with sandbag support in front only.

I like the gun. Definitely a shooter. The trigger is decent if just a tad heavy. This rifle sat in a display at the store for a looong time so it does not have the adjustable trigger (LBA??) that Mossberg now offers. Not a problem, it's fine as is.

I'd have stayed longer and shot the Remington Core Lokt as well, but it was raining enough that the targets were getting mushy and the staples weren't holding. The Federal 150 gr PowerShok works just fine I think.

You really have to do a bit of experimentation to see what your rifle likes to shoot accurately. That can get expensive though and you may be chasing something that isn't that big of a difference.

I use Hornady SST 150's in mine.
